Title: Upgrade procedures
Post by: Deivit on June 27, 2006, 02:23:46 pm
First of all, thank you very much for having me here. As I told before, I'm not sure I'm the more suitable user, but I'll try to do my best to help.

I probably will not be able to start with ir until the week-end but I would like to know some recommended procedures for the upgrade:

1.- Can MC.12 coexist with with MC.11.1 (version 188 or higher)? If so, do I have to install it in a separate directory and tha'ts it?

2.- If MC.11.1 can no longer be used, can I install MC.12 on top of it?

Thanks again.

When I installed, it asked if I wanted to uninstall 11 first, When I clicked NO it installed into a new folder.

You will need to copy over any Skins or Track Info's you had in 11.1

And you can take a backup in MC11 of your library and restore it in MC12

Deivitt--
I'm running both 11.1 and 12 together, and the both work well, and they will even work simultaneously.  However, for safety's sake, during installation elect to do a "custom" install.  In that process I was asked if I want to uninstall a "previous version".  Obviously, "no".  Although 12.0.28 is very stable, and the early features are quite nice.

This is what I did:

1. Made a System Restore Point with XP's System Restore tool.

2. Opened Regedit and exported the following Windows registry branches to a safe place:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ JRiver
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ JRiver

- these are included in the number 1., but it is a lot quicker to restore a couple of registry keys if needed than make a complete system restore.

3. Made a library backup with MC11.1.

4. Installed MC12 in a separate folder.

5. Made a new library and pointed it to my old main library. (I suppose a library restore would have worked as well.)

It seems that if MC12 has changed a library MC11.1 cannot load it anymore.
