Title: Madvr Settings
Post by: maid on November 08, 2017, 08:28:13 pm
Hi Guys,
I have screwed up my Madvr settings, can you help?
I am in Australia and my tv is 60p hz
If I use all display modes when jriver switches the voices go out of sync, if I remove them I dont get the switching to match frame rates and ZI get some jerky movement in movies.
I am not very techy so if more info is needed please ask

looking forward to hearing from you

I have managed to do some settings and I have used display mode switching with video clock.
The problem now is the voices are out of sync.

Check if you have any values in "Options > Video > Advanced > A/V Sync correction milliseconds..." for the 24 Hz and 50, 60, 120 Hz settings.

Also note that are two new keyboard shortcuts to adjust video sync during playback, "<" & ">", which globally adjust the two settings above.

23.0.78 (10/24/2017)
8. NEW: Keyboard shortcuts for video lipsync adjustment. SHIFT+COMMA (SHIFT+, or '<') to delay audio, SHIFT+PERIOD (SHIFT+. or '>') to advance audio, by 50 ms. SHIFT+SLASH (SHIFT+/ or '?') to reset to zero. This works for all DirectShow video file playback and time-shifted live TV. Not for live TV in non-time-shifting mode (as VideoClock is disabled in the mode).

So you can adjust the sync while a video is playing, but note that it makes the changes to the global settings, and not on a file by file basis.

I find it easy to see the sync is wrong, but hard to work out which way it needs adjusting and to get it right. But at least there are setting and keyboard shortcuts to do it.

my 23.98 tv shows are the problem.
Can you tell me if I need to set something in the interlace section and someone mentioned forced film mode??

G'Day again Maid,

I'm not sure you can do anything to fix the twitching and loss of voice sync. It could be the source files you are playing that are the problem.

I'm in Australia as well, and running my TV at 60Hz. I have "Display Setting Automatic Change Mode" set Off, so everything plays at 60Hz. I have just finished watching the series Grimm from mkv files with a resolution of 720x404 @ 23.98 fps, and bitrates typically less than 1000 bps. So not the best quality.

I saw some glitches, some twitchiness, and voice sync problems through the whole series. Particularly voice sync drifts during playback. Sometimes stopping the video and restarting it improved things. Sometimes I had to adjust the voice sync as per my above post.

I also see the problem on my Client PC as well. It is also running at 60Hz and a high resolution. I haven't tried playing them using other software (VLC?) to see if they are any better. That may be worth a try, for comparison.

So what sort of files are you playing from, and what sort of quality are they? If you have some good quality 23.98 fps files, do they also show the problem?

Bottom line: If the source files are free and low quality, possibly even including glitches in the files themselves, and suffering sync issues, then MC probably can't be tweaked to make them work as well as original high-quality files.

Thank you for your reply.
I also have the "Display Setting Automatic Change Mode" set Off, my tv is also 60hz
my files are 23.98 some are 1280x640 movies are hdma 1920x1080
I could not understand why madvr only shows my Onkyo as the display and not my lg tv.
so can i assume just to leave madvr at default settings?
I have deleted the madvr folder and let it download again. it is version 92.3 but I note some settings are blank???

Do you have your HDMI cable going to the Onkyo, and then on to your TV? If so that would be why madVR shows the Onkyo only, as it is the first HDMI device in the chain.

If you have some other configuration, such as separate HDMI cablse to the Onkyo and the TV, then maybe madVR is finding the wrong HDMI device. If so, that could be a cause of problems. I don't know how to make madVR look at the correct device though.

I'm also no expert on madVR settings. The defaults are a good place to start. I know you have gone through the tweaking process several times and have mentioned conflicting requirements in previous threads. I suspect you know more about madVR, or have tried more settings than I have!

Maybe someone else will come along with better information.

Hi RoderickGI,
Thanks again for the reply.
Yes the HDMI cable does go to the Onkyo first.
Last night I deleted the new madvr folder and let it download the old version and we played a flawless movies.
So perhaps the new madvr has issues???

Well the last update to madVR was a while ago:

Quote
23.0.65 (9/27/2017)

2. Changed: Red October HQ updated to madVR 0.92.4
.

But maybe it needed a refresh. Maybe some combination of settings with the new version didn't work well together.

In fact, I should try that myself. Thanks for the idea.  :D

Also noticed last night a very jumpy show that was ok once jriver was stopped then restarted.
Just wondering what if anything is running in the background to cause this??

I've seen the out of sync issue improved just by stopping playback and then starting it again. I rarely see jumpy video, and usually only with poor quality videos, so no amount of stopping and restarting helps that. But I have seen more issues recently with the smoothness of playback. I don't know what is contributing to that though, so no idea how to fix the minor issues I see.

There have been some discussions of certain background processes, or other MC processes, affecting playback. But resolving that sort of conflict is near impossible, particularly in Windows 10. If you wanted to do that, Process Explorer from Microsoft is a good starting point. But that tool is hard to use to find real conflicts.

Basically, I leave that sort of improvement to JRiver.

yes i noticed today that all my additions to windows defender have mysteriously disappeared.
I have put them all back now see now it goes.
I just wish when upgrades happen eg defender and browsers they would leave our settings alone.
