Title: Carolyn, our Reporter in NYC
Post by: JimH on April 06, 2006, 02:12:43 pm
Here's our new podcast:
Carolyn visits interesting parts of New York City, providing colorful comment.

In MC, turn on file associations for podcasts (under Tools/Options) and then visit www.perbcast.com.  You can find the link to Carolyn near the bottom of the page.

Or you can do File/Open URL in MC and enter this link:
pcast://www.jriver.com/~jriver/misc/lifeofcarolyn.xml

You can then stream or download.  If you choose to download the podcast, you'll be able to transfer it to a Video iPod.

Edit: There are 16 episodes now.

What about this cupcake reporter, JimH?  Do I have to do a perbcast to find out if she likes sushi, sunsets and long walks on the beach?  More importantly, does she like old men?  I should tell you, JimH, out here in Los Angeles--you know, on the left coast--I myself am considered something of a cupcake. . .

It's back on line.  Chriz, you need to change the file associations and check podcasts (which gives the pcast filetype to MC).

jgreen, everyone likes old men.

Lol that was quite random =)

I talk to a Romanian girl online named Laura. (Who speaks better English than I do)
And the peculiar thing is, Carolyn sounds almost identical to Laura.

This second episode is causing all sorts of trouble.
I seem to have successfully downloaded it....
however if it does play it is playing at i guess 1.25x speed
and theres no sound.
Half the time MC seems to get hooked up on it and becomes unresponsive...

Try playing it in Quicktime.  What happens?

Try setting MC's playback options for DirectShow, if you have the filters.

OK I didn't change anything but on the 3rd try
it played fine...

I think you could be right it could be a quicktime issue, though
I'm updated to the latest one the other day.

I'll keep updating as more are uploaded, and try changing to
DirectShow if necassery.

A couple of new podcasts were added yesterday.

Carolyn visits the park where a couple dances.

Carolyn buys a new pair of sunglasses from a street vendor.

The second one made me laugh out loud a few times.

We figured out our streaming problem so all four should stream now.

Ok, here's something only slightly related...

Why, if I don't have pcast files associated with MC, and I go to Open URL from within MC, does iTunes open the podcast?

I would think that if I told MC to open the podcast, that MC would open the podcast, not spawn off another app to do it.

For instance, if I'm in Word, I can tell it to open a .txt file and it'll open it, not spawn Notepad to do it.

I was starting to think it must be the norm over there for people

Has Carolyn given up?  It's very quiet.

Entertainments short round here at the moment.
We're coming up for Exams.  I've spent the last 2 weeks
in a Networking book.  I know I've spent to long with computers
already because some of it's actually interesting.
All in all it amazes me that the internet works at all!

There's a disk in the mail, but it's taking longer than it should.

I recorded a heavy rain last night and then the sound of the frogs in the marsh afterward.  If the disk doesn't show up, I'll post that.   ;D

Hehe, I've gone to quite some lengths to find some decent recordings of thunderstorms (for those bad mood days).
It always confuses people when they walk past my room, and here a thunderstorm inside, when it's sunny on the outside...
Still not found one that sounds quite right tho!

so, a couple of things...

1st, I'm having no joy streaming these, I have to d'load to view. What do you reckon, settings at my end, or yours?

2nd, did carolyn ever make it to the top of the empire state building? That would be cool to see.

oh and btw, I'm sure carolyn has more than 4 viewers, tell her not to put herself down like that :)

I'll tell her.  You make five now, I guess.

No, she hasn't been to the top of the Empire State Building, but she's definitely going.

I just tried Cafe Reflection and it streams OK for me.  It could be the version of Quicktime.  What do you have?  I have 7.0.4 here.  QT is a little flakey.
