Title: MC won't advance to the next track etc
Post by: Brian2020 on March 22, 2020, 10:59:59 am: I'm new to Media Centre and have only been using it for two weeks now. I had no problems until the past week when for no reason MC stopped advancing to the next track while playing audio. I have not changed anything at all in my set up and the macbook pro I'm using is exclusively for playing music nothing else.
And no, it's not because I somehow set the player to stop after each track - I've checked that.
The other lesser problem though quite frustrating is: if I play an audio track without first stopping the one currently playing MC seems to trip up. It either says "waiting" forever or plays the new track but without any audio output even though the time bar is progressing.

Post by: HaWi on March 22, 2020, 05:35:20 pm: I'd recommend going to [Help]/[Logging] at the top menu bar in MC and follow the instructions. Then post here the log file that was saved where you directed it. I'm sure there will be a solution. Some very knowledgeable and helpful people are on this forum. Without this community I wouldn't be able to enjoy MC either.

Stopped bothering with MC while trying to play an album. Just ignored it when it got stuck and did not go to the next track. Then over 2 hours later, the next track suddenly burst out of the speakers, surprising me.
Quite clearly some process is going on when MC is stuck at the end of a track; it's just that the process can take 2hrs to complete!

Interesting, but still need to know if you are playing on the Mac or to a network device.

If so, in MC's DLNA Controller settings for the zone (right-click on the KEF zone), try disabling SetNext support.

GetPosition returning 0 is not cool.
If it always returns 0 you will not have a lot of fun using that renderer.
You can try the DLNA controller option "Ignore GetPosition Failure" in which case MC will not attempt to get the playback position from the renderer. It means less functionality but it might make it work.

Thanks again for your suggestions Bob. Tried the "Ignore GetPosition Failure" but to joy. One thing I noticed: if for example a track is 3min 40 sec long, the time starts as 0:00 of 3:40 until it's 3:40 of 3:40 at the end of the track. With the "Ignore GetPosition Failure" option when the track ends the counter continues and I end up with eg 7:20 of 3:40, and continues until I stop it!
Will fiddle around and see if any joy.

Sounds like the transport state info is off as well.
Can you send me a Log? Start logging just before trying to play a track and end it just after it goes past the end.
Probably with and without the controller option for disabling the GetPosition call.

Hello Bob. Reporting back. The culprit has been found: the router! Found out that restarting the router clears up the problem! Every time the issue returns, restarting the routers clears it. Not sure yet what I have to do to the router to get a snag-free service. Have had to restart the router yesterday, when I discovered that this cleared the playback problem, and today when I started playing music and found the issue had returned.

Check for any special UPnP support/filtering on your router. If MC and the rendering device are on the same lan you shouldn't need any special UPnP support, forwarding, etc.
If there is any UPnP filtering turned on though, that should be disabled.
