Title: 23.0.25 new PC build video issue and some questions?
Post by: Ekpen on July 31, 2017, 03:14:04 pm
Greetings all:

About two weeks ago, I finally powered on my main Linux server built for MC and MC only:

Before this, I have an Asus All in One Core i7, 16 gig PC running the Windows version of MC.

Now The new Rig in order for you to understand why I am writing to ask for help, I need to disclose the specs briefly:

It is a Core i7, with Intel 990 X @ 3.47 Ghz x 12
Geforce 9800 GX2 /PCIE/SSE2  Firmware 340.102, running as SLI mode (Quad) GPU.
          24 Gig of Memory.

It is equipped with SSD (Samsung) Evo Pro 500 gig x 2. The Ubuntu 17-04 and MC 23.025 are on the first SSD.

It has 8  6 Tib Hard Drives.
1 3Tib WD drive and 1 HGST  1 tib drive.

Attached to the rig are 4 Mediasonic RAID boxes that store my libraries. I have currently about 1500 mkv Bluray movies.

Now let me state my concerns:

The Geforce (SLI mode): the spec says memory is 2048 meg, and resolution is  2560 x 1600. X server rports memory 512 meg and resolution 1920 x1080   Any one knows why these discrepancies?

Now here comes the issues I am facing:
With the Asus, playing form the same video and audio external libraries, I was able to get smooth video over  DLNA with Sony xbr 930D and xbr 850C.

At times video will buffer, then I just opened up the the Madvr's configuration screen, in the rendering area adjust the GPU and CPU que sizes, all will be fine.
In the Linux distros, I see no way to adjust the gpu and cpu ques.

My Gpus  0-3 are just there, MC is not really taking advantage of those gpus and the power of the Intel 990 X  cpu.

In a future update, can the video menu have a config screen for tweaking to suit? I will like to have the ability to pick or choose  how many gpus to have running .

Looking at the X-server info:
 I see Anti aliasing settings:
  Choice: Use Application settings:
              Override Application settings:
               Enhance Application settings:

I also see   Enable FXAA
                   Anisotropic Filtering:

Please provide suggestions on what settings to use in the X-server config. The video buffering is very serious for such a heavy duty server.

Being new to Linux , I was wondering why Engen was not integrated in to main Linux distros. Will it be included in the future?
Also Is it possible to jazz up the audio experience by including MilkDrop or something similar ? I mean here built in.

Thanks.

George
