Title: Crashes
Post by: lhwidget on May 29, 2021, 01:15:10 pm
Hi All, I've been using JRiver since v16 for all of my music and DVD movie rips.  All files are located on a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine.

I'm running MC 27 on my two HTPCs and my main computer.
All of my PCs are running Win 7 Pro, 64 bit
I use Event Ghost to interpret IR commands from Harmony remotes.
I have installed MC27 and set up OTA recording using two Silicon Dust network tuners (TV shows go onto the server also)

All computers are showing the same behavior:
MC 27 will sometimes crash while navigating TV functions (in regular or Theater View modes - seldom/rare)
MC27 will occasionally crash while recording TV shows (in Theater Mode or regular views)
MC 27 crashes almost every time I select a program from the guide and select watch (when in Theater Mode)

Any ideas?  Just aim me at at any solutions or discussions that may help.

Thanks,
Jay

Antivirus software often causes such problems.  Drivers also can.

MC isn't supported on Windows Server, but I think you're using it only as a file server.

Thanks Jim
I run Malwarebytes on my PC but the htpcs  are run with no AV software.  Any drivers in particular?

You're correct, the server is file storage only.

I followed JRiver's advices for Windows Defender:

"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 27\Media Center 27.exe" and "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 27\JRWorker.exe"

Or exclude the two directories:

"C:\Program Files\J River\" and "%APPDATA%\J River\"

Result: no effect on crashes
It's very sad but I will no longer be able to use the latest versions of JRiver, because I cannot jeopardize the security of my computer by going against the recommendations of Windows, to listen to music, to watch photos or movies.
A loyal customer since version 17.

Did you read this carefully?
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114101.0.html

Are you running other security software?

MC 27 will sometimes crash while navigating TV functions (in regular or Theater View modes - seldom/rare)
MC27 will occasionally crash while recording TV shows (in Theater Mode or regular views)
MC 27 crashes almost every time I select a program from the guide and select watch (when in Theater Mode)
That selecting Watch from Theater View leads to a crash is interesting.  Could be TV driver related, could be video driver.  This isn't a common problem.

Try updating the HDHomerun software and the video driver.
