Title: Retrieving bitdepth from video?
Post by: BryanC on July 11, 2020, 09:46:44 am
Is there any way to retrieve the bitdepth of a movie in MC? I have a whole variety of encodes: 4K HEVC 10-bit, 4K HEVC 8-bit (tonemapped), 1080p HEVC 8-bit, 1080p H.264 8-bit, etc that I would like to organize. Obviously madVR can report the bitdepth correctly so the information is there. Simply setting a resolution cutoff and encoder won't work because of my 8-bit 4K HEVC encodes.

Why would I want this? I have multiple displays, some capable of displaying HDR, others not. Oftentimes the 8-bit source material looks better than 10-bit on displays that don't support local dimming and other HDR hardware support. I would like to hide 10-bit movies in Theater View on such devices.
