Title: Yosemite Released. Anyone Running JRiver Media Center 20 With It Yet?
Post by: mwheelerk on October 16, 2014, 06:55:09 pm
I am downloading Yosemite now on my MacBook but holding off on my MacMini for now until I read some feedback.

For the JRiver People have you previously tested beta versions of Yosemite with MC20?

I've been running it on my mini since the last developer beta before the GMs, and in VMs before that.  MC20 works fine.

GM3 runs like a dream on my Mini.  I haven't really noticed any bugs with the latest GM builds. I'm sure there's stuff in there, but it seems pretty solid to me.

I took a few phone calls on my mini last weekend too.  Worked without issue.  Comes up in the FaceTime app.

I guess after my download finishes on the MacBook I'll start the Mini.

The select font crash still happens in MC though. Other than that, works fine.

I guess I need to get back to working on my skin and reporting bugs then.
The Mac version seems to be behind the Windows version for some of the issues I had previously reported with retina scaling.

Font rendering looks wrong too. Text seems quite aliased with very little subpixel rendering being applied.

That is your own skin creation?  I like it.

It is, thanks. I still have a lot of work to do though.
I've encountered a lot of issues related to retina rendering in Media Center (e.g. arrows not being scaled up, elements being squashed) and now that Yosemite is final, I'm seeing at least a few elements that will have to be redrawn as they have changed slightly from the beta.
The goal is to have something which feels at least a bit more native to the Mac than Noire does.

That's what it looks like to me and why I like it.

Agreed.  Very, very nice job there 6233638.  I'm loathe to run non-standard skins, but I'd love to try that one out if you get it releasable.  If you need web space for hosting downloads, say the word.

My only big actual functional comment is that you changed the Repeat/Shuffle/DSP icon to text.  I understand why you did it that way, of course, but I think actual icons (though restyled ones) would be more appropriate, even in the context of Yosemite.  But, that's just feedback and opinion.

To each their own, of course, but the "Bitperfect" one isn't... right.  That's not what that button does (or at least, not even close to all that it does).  So, I'm not a big fan of that.

But, really, it is so good overall that if you get it working well, they should talk to you about including it in the builds.

The good news is that I don't plan on releasing it until it's done, and as good as anything you'd expect the program to ship with.
The bad news is that I'm not a graphical designer, so that might take a while.

Don't worry, I do plan on making that optional.

As expected.

Understood.

Yay!   ;D

VeryNice!  Would love it once it is ready.  Any chance of a 'dark mode' as well?

Yea, that would be cool. I'm more of a dark mood, I mean mode guy.

I am just now using JRiver with Yosemite for the first time. So far everything seems to function normally.

I actually think that Media Center does quite a nice job with the skin inverted, though I forget whether that's an option on the Mac?
We'll see though, a true dark variant may look better. I do still have a lot of work ahead of me before this is ready.
