Title: What is the difference between these ALSA device output options?
Post by: Rizlaw on June 24, 2017, 10:17:38 am
With regard to the attached jpg image, what is the difference between the two ALSA digital output choices below:

Line 1: Direct hardware device without any conversions

Line 4: Digital Audio Output

Direct hardware device without any conversions means it's output bit-perfect without any conversions using ALSA. If you have these hw: outputs available, I HIGHLY recommend using them for your DAC/sound card.

Digital Audio Output means optical/spdif/toslink digital outputs.

Same here, except on Arch Linux where they're not available (and I never got around to fixing it yet). :P
