Title: Use NFO instead of XML for sidecars?
Post by: mm511 on December 26, 2019, 06:50:37 pm
Is there a way -- either natively or with an add-on -- to have JRiver create NFO files for metadata information instead of the XML sidecars?

(I ask, because I really hate seeing the XML files in the folders. I can add .NFO to the list of hidden files, but I can't do that with .XML as I use that file type for other purposes.)

Nope.

MC reads them, but I don't think it writes to them. Certainly doesn't create them.

You can stop Sidecar files being created though, using the Sidecar settings under "Options > General > Importing & Tagging".

If you are using Views in MC rather than using Windows Explorer, or MC Explorer, you won't see the Sidecar files anyway.

That's a shame... seems like NFO files are more widely supported, so if I decide to use a different media center (i.e., Kodi) I'll have a hard time switching.

Hi,

unfortunately I am also stuck to ember media manager and JRiver absolutely refuses to read them. Is there any chance somone could have a look on that?

Sorry for posting under old versions....however the problem still applies on MC28 :-)
