Here's our plan.
1. The license for the Mac OSX version will be separate from the Windows version.
2. Initial releases will have a 30 day timeout. There will probably be several of these.
3. The final price will probably be the same as the Windows version.
4. The Early Bird price will be $25, with no refunds offered, so don't buy it unless you're sure.
5. It probably won't be dependable for daily use for the first 3 months.

Now, we need one of you (and Matt) from the same year.
-
Shall I send you some vintage Think Different posters?

Shall I send you some vintage Think Different posters?
Thanks. How about posting a couple of pictures?
-
They are rolled up in a poster tube. I don't even recall which ones they are. I recall having Maria Callas, but I'll take a look today after my workout.
-
Here is the only one I could find.
-
It took me a while to find them - I'd forgotten where they were placed in our move.
I have the following:
Maria Callas:

Martha Graham

Joan Baez

Ted Turner:

They would look fine in the Mac Department at JRiver (above JohnT's desk).
I had more first editions (all I think), but sold them years ago.
-
Very cool. Thanks.
-
Early Bird Licenses are available now:
http://www.jriver.com/mac.html
Expect First Look (Still Rough) versions by February 22.
-
Great, I have a license! Now what do I do with it? ?
-
Put it in your top drawer and wait for Feb 22, when we will release the First Look edition.
-
When does early bird offer expire?
-
The price won't increase until at least February 22nd. We expect to raise the price about $5 each month until it reaches $49.98.
-
Thanks. After spending years mentoring my son on the joys of Windows he went over to the dark side and bought a Mac. Despite this heart breaking tragedy I plan to buy a copy for him since I like to support JRiver, even when they make mistakes. :)
-
Ordered mine :)
-
Very awesome, just ordered mine as well. Looking forward to getting back on the JRiver train after ditching windows almost a year ago. A good day indeed. Now just need to brush up on skinning again!
-
Got it ;)
-
What about future updates? Will I have to pay for both Windows and Mac upgrades when MC19 comes out?
-
Ordered mine on my iPad and purchase went through but I received a message that the d/l failed. I'll be traveling when the iOs version is released and won't have Net access till well after the 14 day period expires. Any suggestions, or will this not be a problem?

Thanks for the purchase. It won't be a problem. Here's what you will do when the time comes:

Super duper mega awesome ultra exciting.
1. The license for the Mac OSX version will be separate from the Windows version.
Any love for those of us who will want to run both and have been running the Win version for years?

It's half price until Feb 22.
-
I have only envied a friend of mine who has the windows version for some time now but what I do not know is how your licensing works. Is the current price (the 50% off price) good for a lifetime or will you charge for every new version? Of course the Apple iOS downloads have spoiled me with one purchase and lifetime updates. Just curious how this will work.
thanks,
-
When you buy, you receive a license for the current version. Upgrades are not free, but are discounted.

Re. #2: Does that mean there will be a charge every 30 days or we will be good until it's time to upgrade to version 2? Thanks.
-
I am absolutely stoked to finally see a MAC version. I left Windows over two years ago and with it I left Media Center. I tried running it in a virtual world, but it just wasn't working. THANK YOU!!
-
What a vote of confidence in JRiver. We're all happily paying $25 (almost) for self-acknowledged "working but still rough" software that even then we can't download for 10 days. This says a lot for you guys!!!
Looking forward to my first Mac dl of Media Center

It will be version 18, as in the current Windows program. There won't be any additional charge until we have version 19. Minor versions are free. For example:
If you're using 18.0.129, then 18.0.130 and 18.0.131 are free.
If you're using 18.0.129, 19.0.40 would be a paid upgrade.
Upgrades have been about half the price of a new purchase.
-
I,
Maybe a stupid question, but... is the mac version suitable to be used as 'rendererer' just to receive and play from a streaming Win installation, just as a win to win pair?
If so, ...I have to pay two licences?
thanks in advance.

Media Network will be available in MC, but not in the first release.
Use on Windows and Mac would require two different licenses.
-
Great first step. I'll definitely be purchasing this once you have a retina enabled more mac-like version that I can use to run on my retina macbook pro and control my windows JRiver music server!! That plus JRemote on the ipad = awesome!! :)

Excellent! Thank you for the clarification.

Would I have to pay for both Windows and Mac upgrades? I'm not planning on abandoning either my Windows server/HTPC nor my Mac workstation, so would I have to pay double every time a new version comes out?

They are separate licenses, so they would be separate upgrades. It's possible that we might offer some kind of "package" some day, but too soon to say.

A package would be great! I do understand that the initial porting is a lot of work, but once everything is settled maintaining both versions shouldn't require lots of additional resources, or am I wrong? Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying out your new piece of software! Thanks for the effort!

Apple Trivia Pursuit - Identify this artifact's project.

Hmmmmm....
That's a pretty good one, MrC. Give us a hint. 1980s or 1990s?

Apple Trivia Pursuit - Identify this artifact's project.
B-4 Mac OS.
Was it Mac System Software 3.0 from 1986?
-
Mac OS was very much alive.
-
If you'd answered 1980's, I was going to guess this...

Ahh, but see... Do System 1-5 count as MacOS? I'm thinking no. Generally, System 6 (or maybe 5) was the first "MacOS" branded release.
I'm going with Filemaker 3.0.
Still branded as Claris, but fully owned/operated by Apple by then...
-
Coffee Cup 3.0 or E.0, depending ....

Hi All, I've been running the Win version of MC18 for a while and I'd like to run it on my iMac now. Just curious if it will have home-sharing capability like - dare i say - iTunes does? Keep-up the great work! :)
-
This is getting way ahead of oursleves, but I wonder if in a version or two you'd consider putting a free version of the audio only version of MC on the mac app store, like you did with Media Jukebox on the PC. Would be great visibility for the product and might lure hundreds of thousands more people into upgrading when they see what else MC has to offer.

I just purchased and downloaded media center for Mac. It did not open nor can I open it. Any suggestions?
-
It will be available for download on Feb 22.
