Title: MonkeyMote (iOS music remote control) now supports JRiver Media Center
Post by: mmote on December 24, 2011, 05:06:44 am
Hi,

I'd like to let you all know that I just finished adding support for Media Center in my iOS remote control app.
The app started out as a Winamp remote and is geared towards controlling music playback, so some unique Media Center functions (such as zones) are not supported yet.
Missing functionality and an iPad-interface will be added as time permits. Feedback and feature suggestions are always welcome, either in this thread or via email :)

More information and the required plug-in are available at http://www.monkeymote.com (http://www.monkeymote.com)

Hello Martin, I tried using the Lite version for JRiver.  One quick flaw I picked up is that when you press the PLay/Pause button while playing a song the counter is reset to 0:00 and when you resume the song starts from the beginning!  Maybe you could do a quick fix for this? Best, KB

Thanks for the report. I just uploaded a new plugin build that should fix the pause/resume glitch. The time display being reset when paused is an app issue, I'll look into it.

Does is support any iPod touch genereation? I have an older 2G touch with iOS 4.2.1? If so... I'll give it a try tomorrow!

I am trying it with an iTouch Gen 3.  Try the free Lite version - you have nothing to lose.  You need iOS4.0 or greater and wifi so it should work

Downloaded and installed... I'll play with it a few days and get back.

One question I have... on the right hand side, there is the alphabets for quick jump to artists. How can we get to letters after "E". Tried punching # but does not seem to work!

Can you send me a screenshot?

Does MonkeyMote work with JRiver MC17?
Haven't tested it yet, but theoretically it should.

Edit: It's working fine with MC17. If you upgraded from a previous version you'll simply have to reinstall the plugin.

With MC16 I just copied the .dll file that I downloaded from Monkeymote and pasted it into the JRiver Plugin sub directory (did not use any of the menus inside JR to do this).  Then I restarted MC and it works fine.  Haven't yet tried it with MC17

It should look like this:

Copying around the DLL won't do anything, it gets registered during installation which creates several registry entries that point to the installation location.
There should be a registry key at
Code: [Select]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Center 17\Plugins\Interface\MonkeyMoteafter installation.

Hi,
Now using the full version with JRMC16.  When I press "More" to pull up more playlists, I get a very long list of what looks like everything I have in my library instead of just seeing the specific playlists I had created inside JRMC16.  Is there a way to change some settings to filter so I only see my created playlists (about 6-7 playlists)? To clarify my playlists appear in this long list but I have to search them out using the search bar
Thanks

thanks.
I have about 7 playlists under Smart Playlists and I have created about 8 of my own playlists.  What I see in MMote are 100s of playlists.  Anyway to avoid that?

All in all a very nice app (which is also priced very well) - easy enough to use and has quite a bit of useful functionality and importantly is stable and predictable.  Thanks for that.  If possible, one small feature that would be nice to have is the ability to add a song as "Next to Play" in Enqueue as opposed to the default where its adds it to the end of the Current Playlist. Thanks

Another small bug (also related to the time slider).... while playing a song if you hit the << to re-start the song from the beginning.... the song restarts but the time slider doesn't reset to 0:00 but keeps ticking away.   If you then visit another screen and then come back to the 'playing now' screen with artwork, the slider adjusts itself.

Ok....my turn...!! I've downloaded the app shortly after the Holidays and played with it a bit. I use it only for my audio system with MC 17 and I simply think it is great. Simple, easy to use, provides me with what I want. The only glitch I have is... to get to an artist / album using the alphabet on the right hand side... I either don't know how to do it or it is not working... Any advice??? This is NOT a show stopper and I highly recommend this app. Next step is to post this on the AppStore!

Yosemithe, what happens when you touch the index list and move your finger? Does it work on any of the different views (artist, album, genre)?

Yosemithe, what happens when you touch the index list and move your finger? Does it work on any of the different views (artist, album, genre)?
Let's say I go in "Albums" view, then I get a list of all albums in alphabetical order. If I slide my finger, then I scroll downs (or up) the list to the album I want. On the very far right hand side though, there letters of the alphabet are listed from top to bottom (# a b c d e #) when held vertically. If I touch "C" than it will get to the album beginning with the letter "C". But I am not able to get the other letters of the alphabet beyond E to be displayed, even when scrolling down the main list or by touching the # sign. If I slide my finger on the alphabet, all I get is the albums beginning with the letter a quickly changing to b then to c etc... I am not able to scroll down the alphabet and see F-G-H-I for a quick jump at the album beginning by these letters...

Good day mmote. Any approximative date on an updated version of the app? And I was wondering also if it would be possible to have a navigation with the art cover in the album and genre mode (once you are in one genre). Would it be too heavy to handle for the app/device/network?

It's certainly possible. I've got some proof of concept code working already, but am not 100% happy with it yet.

Please make sure 'Server enabled' is checked in the plugin settings
(http://i.imgur.com/fW0w5.png)
and that your firewall is allowing incoming TCP connections on the configured port.

Yes,already checked.
On the same computer,foobar2000 remote is OK using port 19372.
So ,I think the firewall is no problem.Maybe the MC17 need other setup?
Title: Re: MonkeyMote (iOS music remote control) now supports JRiver Media Center

You can check if the server is up and running by opening a command prompt and entering 'netstat -a', it should show the configured port as 'listening'.
Since you mentioned foobar2000 - the foobar remote app is not compatible with the MC plugin, you'll need to use the other one.

Thank you mmote!

I use both foobar an jriver's plugin of monkeymote, both installed to the right directory.

I  try the command "netstat -a" ,the port(19373) I use ,it shows "LISTENING" .

Weird!
Title: Re: MonkeyMote (iOS music remote control) now supports JRiver Media Center

In case I wasn't quite clear, there are two different apps:
MonkeyMote Music Remote (http://itunes.apple.com/app/monkeymote-4-winamp/id406419202?mt=8) which supports MC, Winamp and AIMP
and
MonkeyMote 4 foobar2000 (http://itunes.apple.com/app/monkeymote-4-foobar2000/id409693155?mt=8) which only supports foobar2000.
If you wish to control MC, you need to use the first app, for foobar2000 you need to use the second one.

Hi mmote

Haha,I realized  the mistake I made,it's exactly what you said.I use the wrong software on the IPOD touch,
'cause I thought  monkeymote can remote MC too. Now I bought the monkeymote for MC,and everything is OK.

By the way,the monkeymote for foobar and MC is the same file name on the screen of IPOD,and the icons are much alike
with eachother.

Thank you very much.

Great app but I cannot find the "play to" feature like it exists on webgizmo. I use that feature to play the song either on my PC running JRiver, my iphone or even my denon AVR3312 that has DLNA and that is recognized by the Media Center.

Do you plan to add such feature soon?

Hi MMote....

a couple of questions or things to look for...

First... I've installed the latest version about 1 week ago. Great stuff!! I love to have the covers!

First.... not sure if it is my setup or what but when JRiver reaches the end of an album (and stop playing the music) I cant reach the server anymore from my iPod. Config or bug?

Also, when browsing through the "Album" with the covers, if I try to go too quickly, the app simply "turns off" ie just like when I leave the app on my iPod. Maybe this is normal... dunno.

Any answers for me?

Thanks

Yo

What do you mean exactly? Do you get disconnected or does the server simply not react to commands anymore? Also, are you running MC 16 or 17?

That would be a crash, which shouldn't happen, of course. This only happens when scrolling very quickly?
Title: Re: MonkeyMote (iOS music remote control) now supports JRiver Media Center
Post by: Yosemithe on September 07, 2012, 10:00:42 am
I guess I can call it a disconnection. Example: I use MMote to pause an album because the phone rings (I know I should not answer but.!!!) and when coming back, I can't resume listening. I am still in MMote but nothing happens... the conection is gone. If the break is not too long, connection is still there and the app respond. After approx 1 minute, I get the "Connection attemp failed" popup. Even if I close the app and get back, I get the same message. I then have to get to the laptop to have the music resume and then the app starts responding without having to close it.

For the crash, it only happens when scrolling in albums (with the covers). It happens wether I am scrolling fast of slow but seems to be more prone when changing scrolling direction (when the album I am looking for just went by and I scroll the other way to get at it...).

I am using an older iPod 2G so... that could a performance issue with the iPod.

Thanks for your kind help.

I've installed the plug-in available on the web site. Will make some test but... What I got from now:

Opened JRiver and did not start any music. Opened MMote and it connected quickly. I had an album to play and paused the song. After a minute or so (short time)... when trying to resume, it would not connect anymore. The popup message is:

Connection attempt failer. Please review your connection and/or network settings.

When clicking "Ok", it brings me back to the "Connections" window. I click on the "server" to get reconnected and then I get this popup message:

Connection rejected by server. Pls make sure that your audio player is running and another remote isn't already connected.

I can garantee that no other remotes are connected (only my iPod has the apps!).

Once again... thks for your help!

Hello,
I use the Ipad version, (just baught it because the last version of Myriver freeze JRiver after a few minutes...) and I have the same problem than another user (don't remember your name, sorry), the current playlist is not refreshed until i go back to connections page in the monkeymote program.

Except this problem, I think your app. is the best one...

Thanks...

Looks like Media Center does not notify plug-ins about playlist changes, contrary to the documentation.
I implemented a workaround, please install the new plug-in version and see if that resolves the issue for you.

I'm testing the new release of your plugin for half an hour, and the playlist is refreshed without any problem !!! fantastic
Thanks

Cannot install the latest version 1.3.4. It shows error message. Even uninstall monkeymote 1.3.3, the 1.3.4 still cannot be installed. I ran Windows 8.

What kind of error message do you get?

And if I click skip, it will show successful installation. But when I open JRiver, the version of Monkeymote is still 1.3.3.

Did you exit Media Center before trying to install the plugin?

Thanks, mmote. I exit Media Center and use system administrator to install the plug-in. It worked.

Porting the app to android would basically mean rewriting it from scratch. That's just not feasible for me, sorry :-[

That would depend on whether or not the Mac version supports plug-ins.

Hi, I have a problem with the new Ipad version. When I try to add only one track to the current playlist, the app shut down. When I add an album it works...
Thanks

That's a know bug that unfortunately got introduced with the last app update. A fix has already been submitted and should hopefully become available very soon.

I use JRiver long, actuelementje'm switching from windows 7 to 10 with  MC 19 there two months.
All worked well, but now the plugin to monkeymote disappeared.

Did you upgrade JRiver from a previous version? Sometimes stuff gets left behind in the registry.
