Title: Background Process Load
Post by: orionn on April 02, 2018, 11:56:25 pm
I've recently upgraded MC23 to the latest version and since then my PC has become sluggish.  Even when closing jriver, Task Manager shows a background MC23 process which is consuming CPU resources up to 70%.  I ran this over 2 days now thinking it may be some new indexing but it does not end.

Hi,
There is no Anti-Virus installed.
I upgraded to MC24 and the problem persists.
I stopped the MC Server but then the MC app consumes a lot of CPU instead.

What version of Windows? If Windows 10, the Windows Defender antivirus is likely running in the background and would likely need to be tamed for MC.

I have not done this in awhile, but I pulled up Task Manager the other day out of curiousity.  I was playing a 5.1 SACD-DSF file with on the fly conversion to 176k PCM plus bass management  plus Dirac Live EQ via the VST plugin.  Total CPU usage was in about the 8-15% range.  RAM usage was fairly constant at about 4 GB.

My PC is about a 4 year old I7 with 16 GB RAM.  Files are served from a NAS. I do not use memory play. There is a GPU, via which I was displaying these results as they occurred.

I am on the latest JR 23 - 32 bit, using Win 7 Pro 64 bit.  My Webroot AV/Firewall is always on by choice.

I have never seen any evidence of JRiver using excessive resources.

I was suspecting it is Defender but when I exit jriver, CPU usage falls to 2%
I also don't see any Defender process running in Task Manager
I'm running a i3 beebox with SSD and my music library is on a usb 4TB external disk
I've not had this problem prior to upgrading to MC23 a month ago
