Hi Forum!
Not a new topic but without resolution for me so far:
Compilation albums show as 1file/song.
Tagging album artist as multiple works, BUT: tag changes aren't saved - next load it's back to individual tiles.
Same for cover art: it does not seem to be saved.
This has been my problem for the better part of a decade and I have been at it multiple times deleting whole library, fixing whole library, and no sustainable solution. I paid for upgrades, and getting extremely frustrated, thinking free alternativfes do not have this problem.
Just need it to display my music collection correctly, a massive and paid media center should be able to do this by default....
If I come out looking dumb but with a fixed problem I'd be one happy camper!
Thanks in advance for your no doubt valuable contributions!

Read the wiki topic on tagging and Album Artist.
-
Just making sure that it is "Album Artist" what field you are updating and not "Album Artist (auto)". That would explain value disappearing after program restart. Doesn't explain art though.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the quick response. I read the wiki sites and multiple threads on the forum in my several attempts over the years - spent many frustrating nights, feeling very stupid.
Same album title, different artists each song, and "album artist (auto)" picks the artist of the song instead of seeing that it is one album with several artists.
I can correct it, but when I reboot the changes are gone and I can start over.
Problem 1: MC does not automatically recognize compilation albums
Problem 2: Once corrected, MC doesn't remember changes or proactively changes them back
-
Album Artist lets you set an artist for the album. Just select the tracks and set it.

Dumb question here, are you perhaps connected to a Library Server? If so, and you're making these edits on your computer which is connected to a library server, you need to sync the changes to the library server to have them persist. It's a little annoying but it can also be really useful, I've done some stupid things tag wise and been able to undo them by just restarting JRiver and re-connecting to the library server.

Hi Jim,
Really sorry for bugging with this basic issue - appreciate your patience.
I do change the album artist for the whole album, and it changes to one tile.
After reboot it is back to what it was before.
library is on a QNAP NAS that runs twonky media, if that helps.
-
If you're using Twonky to serve files, anything could happen.
Instead, just import the files from the NAS directly into MC.
-
Okay Jim is probably right and perhaps you are using DLNA to get files from Twonky and that's why changes won't stick

THAT is the first new sensible clue I've seen in years - Thank you, I will investigate!

Importing from NAS to MC. Also probably a good idea - thanks a lot!
I'm doing my best to learn, but I'm really struggling I must admit.
PRobably not easy to comprehend for folks that eat and breathe this stuff...
How can I set JRiver so that it recognizes compilation albums ?
THat should be possible right?

Let me know if this was it. Curious.
