Title: Clear Library- Intensive
Post by: GHammer on June 27, 2006, 12:02:52 pm
I chose to clear the library after 'watch folders' imported many items I would not choose to import. (shouldn't this default to whatever types I have selected during setup?)

I chose reset fields to default.

MC ran for 10 minutes using up to 95% CPU.
I looked at what was happening and MC was accessing every file that it had in the library.

Shouldn't this simply delete the library and recreate the default library?
I wouldn't think it necessary to access every file in the library to clear it.

Ahhhh, I see.
I cleared the library and Otto filled it right behind me.
That will require some adjustment on Otto's part.

Make sure you have "Exclude files previously removed from library" checked in Import > Advanced.

Then, remove files by picking them and pressing delete.  Otto import will leave them alone.

Clear Library makes a new library, so Otto won't know the files were manually removed.

That'll work, but it would be nice if Otto was told to take a break after clear library. Also, how will this work when you load an alternate library?

I'll poke it a bit further.

I have a few 1000 various files of different types in a directory tree just for MC 12 testing.
I'd also like to be able to load my full library from time to time.

Hmmmm.... Interesting point.  Perhaps the Otto import settings (when done) need to be saved on a per-library basis.  Otherwise it will become difficult to manage separate libraries of files and still use the Otto Import function.

Definitely.

I'm thinking that on creation of a new library, Otto should sit tight and let MC pop up the Import Media dialog to let us change whatever settings we want. Then when we click OK, Otto can do his thing.

The way it is now, we'll have to remember to redo all of our Import Media settings first, then do the switch. Otherwise all of our libraries will wind up being the same.

Make sure you have "Exclude files previously removed from library" checked in Import > Advanced.

I would have done that except it seems that "Import" has been dropped in favor of "Add Folder To Library". Wouldn't that have been better as "Import Media"?

Do I have to check "Watch This Folder" if the new folder that I am importing resides in a directory that is already being "Watched"? I assume not.
