Title: Stuttering video when playing hevc 2160p
Post by: andrevi on June 13, 2017, 08:52:23 pm
Hello,

I get video stutter when playing hevc 2160p with Red October HQ.

I have XPS 15 I5 with 8gb RAM & dedicated 1gb Invidia GPU.

What settings do I need ?

Thanks Much

What happens if you try Red October Standard?

You should enable Hardware Accelerated Video decoding in the Options under Video, if that doesn't help then your system may just be too slow. Decoding 4K/2160p video can be very demanding.

what would minimum system requirements be ?

I also have a XPS 15 machine with I7 and 16gb RAM and 2 GB Nvidia GPU and I still get video stutter.

I doubt any laptop currently available would be capable to decode a sufficiently complex 2160p video on the CPU.

Get GPU-Z and look how your GPU utilizes Memory etc?

Do you use Intel IGP or the NVIDIA GPU?

If you are using the NVIDIA GPU 1GB of Video RAM is to less for playing UHD videos. On my GTX 960 I often see 2-4 GB VRAM utilization.

So disable the NVIDIA GPU in the BIOS and try RO Standard with Intel IGP and Hardware Acceleration on in the MC Video Options.
