Title: Using MJ 14 or other to modify music files in Windows Explorer?
Post by: BBCcom on December 08, 2011, 07:29:08 pm
I have a lot of music I've acquired over time that I keep in a "My Music" folder on my Windows 7 machine.  Many of the individual files are not showing the name of the artist, or some say the artist, but not the song.  It is very time consuming to fix all of these.  most of them show up in MJ14 with both the name and song showing, but some have the titles in the wrong place.  When I fix them in MJ, it does not correct the original file in Windows Explorer.  Will any of the other versions do this?  In MJ, it is very easy to correct a whole group by "re-naming", and entering the top title, which corrects all the others. I can't do this in windows.  Sure would be nice if I could modify the windows files with my MJ or MC software....does anybody have any ideas about this?

MJ has an option to write the changes to the file.  It may not be on.

How do I turn that feature on?

Is there a feature in MJ 14 that allows me, when I make a change in a song or artist title, to have that change made at the same time to my original file in Windows Explorer?  If so, how do I turn that feature on?

Generally, but not "at the same time".  In other words, reasonably soon thereafter.

Options > General > Importing & Tagging > Update tags when file info changes

Or you can force changes when you desire:

Library Tools > Update Tags (from library)
