Title: What are "small filters" in the convolver?
Post by: mattkhan on April 27, 2021, 05:27:05 pm
This feature in the release notes remained unexplained as to what it is, could you explain pls

3. NEW: Added the option "Use small filters to reduce latency" to the Convolution DSP.

I was looking for latency and noticed a filter that seemed bigger than necessary.  I made it optional because you'll need to test performance.

ok I'll give it a try and see if I can measure any difference

signal chain is

REW -> ASIO Line In -> JRiver -> ASIO Output -> loopback in audio driver -> REW

small filter option cut 80ms off measured latency but required larger buffers in the audio driver to produce stable results (on top of the already large buffers allocated via jriver audio output options)

it would be better if I could measure using the WDM driver though as that is what I imagine most people actually use in this situation, not so easy to do though
