aTagger v1.1.3 is available from download at http://atagger.auldridge.biz/downloads/atagger_1_1_3.exe (http://atagger.auldridge.biz/downloads/atagger_1_1_3.exe).
The list of updates/enhancements for v1.1.3 are:
- Correct the bug in the version checking code that is used to "Check for
Updates"
- Fix bug where the playlist that is configured to be used by aTagger is
deleted or renamed [Jonas]
- Apply the option to strip leading "The" & "A" on the artist names of
multi-artist albums
- Split the option to strip leading "The" & "A" on the artist and album
into two options, one for artists and another for albums
- (Starting in version 1.1.2) In addition to stripping "The", "A", and
", The" and retrying searches, aTagger will search for the album name
followed by a '[' character as there is often notation like [US] or
[Live] after album names that were keeping aTagger from exactly matching
the album name. Based on problems that [Jonas] identified, aTagger has
been modified to search all iterations of the album name (e.g., name,
The name, A name) based on the user selected search options and if the
album name is still not found, aTagger will again try all iterations of
the album name but followed by " [" the second time.
As always, please let me know about any problems that you encounter.
Enjoy... @l@n
-
Alan, thanks for the ongoing work on this GREAT Plug-in! :)
-=Tim=-
-
Thanks!
How do you treat "&" characters in album names? It seems like you may not escape them since one of my albums called "Då & nu 1991-1996" is matched by an album called "D.A.".
-
First off, let me just say that I love this plugin. Great work.
A few thoughts that would make it better:
1. If fields don't exist in the database, pop up a warning BEFORE running the entire search, rather than an error in the log at the end of it. I spent 3 hours tagging my entire collection only to realize that I had added a field called sytles to my database but told aTagger to dump stuff in styles instead.
2. Store some sort of album ID field for faster updates
3. Strip leading or trailing punctuation (ie ...but seriously or Endtroducing...)
4. Other people have already suggested it, but an option to manually select an album during interactive mode if the search don't succeed. A possible quick-and-dirty workaround would be to simply pop open a web browser, have the user manually find the page with the album info, and then copy and paste that URL into aTagger. This would probably be much easier to implement than a built-in pick list of albums from a particular artist, and would also allow the user to find albums where the artist was incorrectly identified or otherwise not present (mix albums, etc)
Thanks again for a great plugin!
--Tim
-
One other thing I noticed - it seems that it is using artist rather than album artist for the search. It would be great if there were an option to use Album Artist, because certain albums aren't being recognized correctly if they are many mix albums with the same title (ie the "DJ Kicks" or "Another Late Night" series.
Just a thought...

@l@n, I run my TV display at 800x600 and notice that the plugin doesn't do a very good job at scaling to this lower resolution. On screens with lots of fields, they extend off the bottom of the screen. Can anything be done? Scrollbars, or more columns/fewer rows of info?

Doug, I'll drop my resolution down to 800x600 and see how bad it is. If possible I'll reorganize the screen layout to get it all on the screen or add a scrollbar, or something.

Or even if it does succeed, since it may have found the wrong album.

Thanks, @l@n! Running the new one now. Looks like I may be getting more matches. More news in the morning.

just tried the plugin and it works great.
Very nice and very powerful. thanks for some great work.
One thing, i changed the plugin mode to 1 so it runs while I do other things in MC and I found it a big improvement.
another thing -could the plugin be made to remember options between sessions, mine seems to forget which boxes I have checked, even if I just open the options window above it then close it again, all options have been reset.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

I'll check that out. I never actually new what the mode did. :) What kind of improvements did you see?
another thing -could the plugin be made to remember options between sessions, mine seems to forget which boxes I have checked, even if I just open the options window above it then close it again, all options have been reset.
There is a save button in the bottom left corner of each of the options page. Everyone seems to overlook it so I need to make it larger or give a warning when you leave an options page after making changes.

How do you do that?

Using regedit, navigate to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Plugins\Interface\aTagger\PluginMode and change the value from 0 to 1.
Note: This can be DANGEROUS if you make a mistake while modifying the registry.

Hi @l@n,
Initial results are good, more matches and it looks like things are getting saved. I spotted one or two oddities that I will have to check out this weekend. Looks like aTagger may have found the artist "Apples in Stereo" on one album but not another. Both are listed in my DB as "Apples in Stereo", they are online as "THE Apples in Stereo".
-
Improvement I saw was that I could do other stuff in MC while it was searching :)
Was nice instead of just having to wait for the results.
changing it to 1 means its always running instead of only running when in focus so you can happily go about other tasks while its doing its work in the background.
-
Hi Alan,
It looks like when I select Bios only, it's still looking for the album and reporting a failure even if the artist could be found. Is it possible to make the bios search only search by artist? Right now, for an artist whose album isn't found, but their bio *could* be, the plugin doesn't find it...
thanks!
-
hi alan, this is a super plugin, i've done this before manually.... and now i can relax thanks to you.
...but if i do a manual change within aTagger it will only apply it on the first song for that particular album...no good
thanks Lasse Lus
-
Slight problem here, this plugin does not initialize/appear properly in MC 9.0.180. It appears albeit very oddly, as if the plugin window is overlayed on top of the MC window, but does not constrain to the plugin area. The upper left corner of the plugin appears to be nearly coincident with the upper left corner of the program. And MC text/graphics are masked and clunky. I had to restart MC to get back to normal. Are there any build-requirements for this plugin (e.g. MC10?).
Sounds like a great plugin, would love to try! Thanks!
-
This is a great plug-in! It will save me hundreds of hours.
Anyway I concur with Lasse_Lus about manual changes only applying to the first track in an album. I also have another problem in that cover art is not stored in the correct location. I have changed my default cover art directory to M:\Cover Art and it is still storing it in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Data\Cover Art, for now I just copy all of the images put them in the correct place and do a quick find in cover art directory.
I look forward to future versions of aTagger!
-
Oh, one more thing.
Images are also named based on the original Artist and Album name rather than the newly accepted Artist and Album name. For example I had an album by Sarah McLachlan and my original Album name was Remixed Arista, the real name was Remixed [2003 Arista], the image is actually still names "Sarah McLachlan - Remixed Arista.jpg" rather than "Sarah McLachlan - Remixed [2003 Arista].jpg" since I have to manually relocate the files to the correct cover art directory, when I do a "Library Tools/Image/Quick Find in Image Directory" it obviously doesn't find the file since the names are wrong.
-
alan - i just noticed that the atagger provides no way of changing and fixing the track names... is this easily added?
pip
-
I saw that on the to do list for future features...
-
Hi Alan...
Is it possible to have the system put a [Enter] after each line were it would normally be a ;
ie..
Currently if you use a track info plate the Songs field looks like this...
Song1; Song2; Song3
By putting a enter instead of a ;
Song1
Song2
Song3
Thanks
-
Here are a few other minor bugs:
1. Though aTagger finds cover art when it is available for all albums it won't write the image to disc if the album title has an invalid character in it (I've only seen this with a colon ":")
2. Confirmed that aTagger writes images to the default Cover Art directory and not the one specified by the user in the Media Center settings
3. Using aTagger on a single album never saves album art
-
This seems like a very useful program, and the interface is pretty cool. BUT, I have yet to get aTagger to save any data it finds. I assume this is user error, so if you could set me straight, I would appreciate it. I have not added any library fields, I just want to modify the existing ID3 tag data.
I one song in the playlist and go to aTagger, and start the tagging. It finds the correct tag and image (I started with no image associated with this file), and I click ok to change the tag...and I have checkboxes asserted: Image and in MC I have the "store image files inside mp3 files." I then get the error information:
aTagger Version is 1.1.3
Tagging mode enabled -- Tags will be updated.
Processing 1 songs...
Processing artist: Green Day album artist: Green Day album: Dookie track #: 5 song: Welcome to Paradise
Image: None *** Different ***
*ERROR*: Unable to get Image tag.
Songs: 1 (1 updated, 0 skipped, 0 errors) Albums: 1 (1 updated, 0 skipped, 0 errors)
Any help?
Also, fairly regularly, I get an error when starting aTagger: "Object Reference Not Set to an instance of an object" I can usually go to playing now window and click back on aTagger and it seems to work.
Thanks a bunch!
-
Roognation,
Did you manually add the appropriate user fields to the Media Center Library? aTagger won't automatically create the fields you need to store the info. You have to go to Options/Tree & View and define some new user fields.
Otherwise I'm not sure what is going on.

Looks like @l@n has disappeared... The last time he posted to the boards was in April.
Hope he's OK.

FYI, does not work with MC11
(but since MC11 is an Alpha release I really did not expect it to).

I use v11 and I have no problems... What error are you getting?
-
nevermind, it is working now ::)
-
It looks real impressive and it I'll bet it's gonna blow those folks at MM( no not the chocolate candy people) out of the water. I wondered if there were additional setup instructions beyond basic installation posted anywhere...... :o
-
I was on the AMG site a few minutes ago and suddenly on a new page refresh the site switched over to a new format. I assume aTagger is no good now... I'll try it soon and learn the inevetible.
-
Nope... Atager isn't workin anymore....
Hopefully Alan is still around and can fix it....
-
That sucks. aTagger saved me a ton of time. I'd be willing to pay for aTagger (hint hint: Alan if you're listening).
-
This is a MAJOR bummer. I really relied on aTagger. :(
-
To get a final sprint out of it before its no longer useable.
open the file: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
insert this line at the bottom: 63.211.17.231 www.allmusic.com
then open MC and run it - it'll re-direct www.allmusic.com to the IP of allmusic.com and so it'll work.
Enjoy and hurry up!
-
I tried that this morning, but the site was also the new site. Right now it is back to the old. Thanks for the heads-up.
-
:'(
nope, all the links lead to the updated AMG site.
@l@n . . . . . HELP!!! pretty-please

i PM'd alan a while ago and sadly havent heard back from him - i too am really missing aTagger

i PM'd alan a while ago and sadly havent heard back from him - i too am really missing aTagger
I haven't seen him around (I guess read) for a long time...
I hope all is well!
-
I'm sorry that I haven't been around for a while. I spent so much time working on aTagger a while back that I built up a very long honey-do list with my wife. It's taken me a while to get her list in order ;)
Since aTagger is not working at all :(, I'll begin making updates ASAP. I'm not sure how long it will take as I just found out that aTagger is broken and I havent had any time to look at the new data format.
Thanks... @l@n

Alan
Welcome back! Glad to hear you are still about.

@l@n,
Hey I'd be glad to donate to the cause financially for such a great product. It has saved me hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours. Thanks again.

Glad you're back!!
So, you think it's possible to work with the updates made to the AMG site? I hope so as aTagger is the most important plug-in I use for any piece of software.
-
Just a quick status on aTagger v1.2.0...
It looks like I wont have too many problems updating aTagger to use the new format. All of the parsing tags need to be updated, but for the most part it is not as bad as I initially thought. :)
Later... @l@n

@l@n
Welcome back. ;D

Alan,
while you are updating aTagger, could you also make it so the user can choose where to store the cover art?
Thanks,
-
Alan,

Sure, I think that has been a problem for a lot of people.
Thanks for the request... @l@n

Since you're taking requests... I posted this higher in the thread. Here it is again.
"Though aTagger finds cover art when it is available for all albums it won't write the image to disc if the album title has an invalid character in it (I've only seen this with a colon ":")"
Can you replace that with a underscore (that's what I replace invalid characters with in filenames). I'm sure this needs to be done for all invalid characters like ?/;:\ etc. Thanks.
-
Hi Alan,
I know this has been mentioned before, but just in case you missed it...
There is a problem when you edit the information found by aTagger before applying it. aTagger updates the first track with the changed information, but all the remaining tracks on the album get the original "found" information.
-John

Welcome back @l@n !
-
Just a quick status update...
I've been finding it difficult to spend much time updating aTagger but I have been making good progress. I havent added any new features yet, but I'm about 80% complete with the updates to use the new data source.
I hope to have a release this week, or next weekend at the latest.
Later... @l@n

Thaks a lot for your time on this!!

Ok .. I just went into aTagger today .. and I'm caught up now .. I now know its broken :)
Looks like we havent heard from you in 10 days ... any update on getting this workin' again ?
-
I'm getting really close to delivering a new version of aTagger. There have been a couple of distractions that I hadn't planned for (the release of Doom 3 ;D and the bad weather/hurricane that is headed for us in Florida :().
I hope to publish an update this weekend.
Sorry for the delay... @l@n
-
So, How is Doom3??
-
So, How is Doom3??
I love it!!! Honestly, I'm more of a Half-Life fan (with fingers crossed that HL2 will be out in the next couple of months) but the Doom 3 visuals are awesome. I had an older ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder that wasnt near enough card for the game. I upgraded to one of the new ATI 9800 Pro All-In-Wonder video cards and all is well.
Later... @l@n
-
Well, the weekend is nearly over ... WHERE'S MY NEW BUILD?
Just harrassing ... Any progress ?

Drospoh
Take it easy ;)
I'm sure Alan has got other things on his plate. He's not getting paid for this, you know.

Any updates ?

@l@n ?
Any Thing?
Pleazzze!

I'm soooooooo sorry that I haven't published the new version of aTagger yet. It is working fairly well but with a couple of minor bugs. The bigest problem that I'm having is these darned hurricanes.
I live in South Florida and the hurricanes are really wasting my time. In addition to losing my back yard fence and a few neighborhood trees, I've not had cable TV or Internet access for over 7 days. Thank God I do have power and more importantly AC!!! Hopefully the cable/Internet will start working again soon so I can get back to testing/debugging aTagger.
I shouldn't need more than one good evening of testing to finish up, I just don't know when that will be.
Sorry for the continued delays... @l@n
-
Hey, just take care of yourself and the family, we'll get it when we get it.
-
Nice to hear from you Alan and that all is well (considering...)
Just take care of your family for now. We can wait, don't worry...
Wish I lived around Florida. Being a contractor, I'd fix your fence myself. That's how much I appreciate aTagger!
Michel.

I hope all remains well for you and your family!

@l@n Any Thing?

I *HATE* hurricanes!!! I'm so tired of bringing in all of the stuff from the patio boarding up all doors and windows, losing my internet connection, sleeping poorly, unboarding doors and windows (so I don't feel like I live in a cave), then clearing a path inside my house by putting stuff back out on the patio. I love living in South Florida... but enough is enough!!!
Thank God the 3 hurricanes have all gone just north of me (not causing any serious damage – worst part has been lengthy cable/Internet outages).
Wow, I feel better now that I got all of that off my chest. :D
I PROMISE that I'll try to release the latest version of aTagger TONIGHT (assuming that I have power and an Internet connection when I get home).
A couple of questions for you guys... There have been several requests for an option to specify the location of images. Do you want a single directory or an option to store the images inside the directory of the song, or both? Also, are there any "standards" for the naming of the image files (e.g., storing one image file for an entire album). Since I store the images within my MP3 files, everything works fine for me. I need to understand exactly what will work for everyone.
Keep your fingers crossed... @l@n
-
I have all my cover art in its own directory "cover art" that is in the same parent directory as my music.
That way I just sync the parent directory for backing up my music to another computer on the network.
So I would like to be able to select the directory to store images.
Thanks.
-
I store all my coverart as folder.jpg files within each Album directory.
For example:
Music
+-- Rush
| +-- 2112
| | +-- folder.jpg
| | +-- [01] Rush - 2112.mp3
: : :
-John
-
Thanks for the reply and I am very glad to hear you are alright.
Cover Art
I never embed cover in the music. (I don't need bloated music files etc)
I do use the format Artist - Album for jpegs as I have found some advantages with raw sorting for other apps. Dir tree is as expected, Root\artist\album
I never use cover.jpg, folder.jpg, etc. I simply feel this is a problem just hating to happen!
Thanks Charles
-
I do the same as Cocophone.
-
no hassle - just release it when everything's settled
pip
ps. as for cover art i dont care as long as mc recognises where it is
-
Welcome back @l@n. Glad to hear you're OK. That's got to be frustrating.

I keep all of my art in the folders as "Folder.jpg"
-
I keep cover art inside the tag/
-
I also save the cover art inside the mp3. Mainly for compatability between music players and especially for compatability with my htpc software. If you save the cover art in some directory you always have issues to make sure that programs pick the correct image.
-
I've worked on aTagger from 8:00pm until 1:00am the last two nights. I've done a lot of testing and I think I've beat out most of the serious bugs. I've got just a couple more loose ends to wrap up (real minor stuff) then I'll package it up and let you guys have it.
I hope to get it packaged up tomorrow night but I might not be able to as I go to a Bible study every Wednesday evening and sometimes I get home late.
I'm trying my best to get it out... REALLY!!!
Goodnight... @l@n
-
You are the man! Thanks for everything.

^^^ Same here + Then I store cover arts inside the tags as well.
Safer this way. :D
But like others have said, don't make too big of a deal out of it for now :P
Thanks for the great work and as you can tell, you have a huge group of fans on these boards... Eheheh
-
Super!
-
Can't wait to try it.
It mentions on the website that atagger uses the style info from amg for the artist data. Is it the overall artist data or does it vary for each album as amg shows different styles for each album but same artist?
-
I believe it does both Artist Styles and also Album Styles, the best of both worlds!
-
Hi @l@n. Great work on the new version. One initial comment. The Review field gets filled with the review but it's truncated and ends with "Read More..."
Thanks for all your work. Looks great.
