Title: Does constant screen updating affect sync speed?
Post by: MusicHawk on July 22, 2010, 05:24:39 pm
In MC 15.0.80, syncing to iPod, MC's screen is constantly scrolling because it jumps between the progress bars of tracks being Converted and tracks being Uploaded. These are widely separated points in my sync playlist, not visible at the same time.

Does this constant screen updating have any significant impact on syncing performance (or on anything else)? Some software I've used speeds up A LOT once it realizes it's not being viewed.

If screen writing slows down MC, does it keep updating its screen if its window is hidden behind others, or minimized? Or the sync tab is hidden by selecting a static MC tab?

It's likely the device will be the bottle-neck, not the computer.

Drawing to the screen does takes resource, but not all that many.  Windows that are covered, not visible, etc. will not draw or otherwise spend time preparing for renders that won't be seen.

Matt, thanks for explaining.

Syncing 60GB takes so long, close to a full day (not counting periodic crash-restarts) that every little bit of performance helps. So I'll keep MC on a different tab, and MC's window in the back or minimized.
