Title: Recordings won't stop
Post by: imeric on December 16, 2020, 06:32:39 pm
I keep having TV recordings that won't stop and MC shows a pop-up saying it can't delete the file. I need to shut the program down to hard stop the recording.
I have this issue on 2 different PCs. Logs available if required. It started 2-3 versions ago.

I’m sure it’s all in the log files I sent. Bottom line is everything is up to date with latest versions.
Cards are haupage

This keeps happening on all 3 PCs all with Hauppauge cards.  Same behaviour...I get a message saying it's unable to delete the files and then not releasing the card...

Well something else that comes to mind... Could it be related to this useless 20H2 update with more crap added to Windows 10?? Troubles started roughly at the same time...

Is something read only?

If it's a Windows update, it's probably related to Windows Defender.  Double check that thread.

I would put my money on that, and possibly Defender or other security changes.

But also, JRiver updated their security Certificate (Digital Signature) in MC27.0.39, which Defender didn't like, and complained during updates. It could be that combined with normal Defender functionality is blocking the deletes.

So is it happening to you as well? If not why not? I could turn off defender to prove a point but I’m still hoping you guys will find out in the logs I sent... Can’t always blame Defender...It should be considered as an integral part of an OS and its there for a good reason.

And yes...MC27 has been tamed way before this as per what's recommended on all 3 machines...There's been a lot of changes on newer streaming TV devices and time-shifting in the last month as well ...This is where I would look.

Didn't experience this issue but it would make sense....

No recording problems here, SiliconDust tuners, latest version of MC27, Win10 v20H2 all updated, never touched Defender, no other AV.

Eric's logs seem to suggest that recordings were not stopped because MC thought they were already stopped.  The parameter that was set to indicate various stages of a recording was "stopped".  Strange.  I will keep an eye on it.

Thank you sir. One more thing I forgot to mention..: Sometimes it also does the exact opposite... It will stop the recording and start it again on its own so I end up having multiple files for the same recording.  I'll try to gather other logs if it happens again. It is sporadic...

A few changes I've seen in the release notes which came roughly at the same time I've started experiencing issues..Could one of these be related to my issue(s)?
Worked flawlessly before...Since this is happening on my 3 PCs with tuner cards I don't think it's my setup...
I don't have streaming tuners but....
