Title: What is needed to get a plugin for Home Assistant up en running?
Post by: flac.rules on September 29, 2020, 03:17:53 am
I am not very knowledgeable on how plugins like this work, but is there anything that can be done/is needed on the MC-side to let it be controlled via the most popular(?) smart-home-software, Home Assistant? Or is everything "ready for action" on the MC-side and it is just about someone writhing a HA-plugin?

JRiver Media Center contains a full featured Web Service Interface (MCWS) that allows it to be remotely controlled using http.

You can see some info on it here:

Learn how to write a Home Assistant plugin, and you're off to the races.

With the death of IFTTT (for me anyway - due to the new subscription model) I installed Home Assistant. I'm impressed by Home Assistant and already have most of my automation gear integrated. They recently added a media player, but it doesn't support FLAC.  I don't have the knowledge or skills to do this - but it sure would be great if JRiver could be added as an integration.  I bet this would be a good marketing move for JRiver as well.

We're headed that way.

Anything new for integrating J River with Home Assistant?  Home Assistant just released version 2022.3 which included new media functions.  It now detects J River as a DLNA source, and lists all my playlists but will not play anything.  I suspect this is because all my files are FLAC which the built-in media player in Home Assistant does not recognize. I wish there was a way to use J River as the media player....

MC can convert to mp3 on the fly.
