There seems to be an issue with the 23.0.13 where processes keep getting launched (or something), or the icon just keeps popping up and disappearing in the Dock. See images here at this link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xtdpqcuehj635ep/AADePQST8vZRfZV8k9JA_IVFa?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xtdpqcuehj635ep/AADePQST8vZRfZV8k9JA_IVFa?dl=0). Keeps thrashing CPU as well. Not sure what the cause is, but when it stops, MC 23 is extremely sluggish to respond, and generally I need to force close the app.
Any thoughts? Is there a newer build I can try?

Those processes being launched are probably reading video files. MC uses those extra processes to work on files as they are being imported.
I'm not sure, but it might do this also if it was rebuilding thumbnails for video files.
You should probably check your thumbnail status and then, at some point, tell it to build all missing thumbnails and wait for it to finish.
Help > System Info > processing > thumbnails built
Tools > Options > Tree & View > thumbnails > build missing thumbnails
Good luck.
Brian.

In my experience every upgrade of MC does this for a few minutes on first launch. Usually doesn't last long but I think it is converting files from your old library with old metadata or something.

Thanks Brian - will check and run this overnight and see if it improves.
I'm getting LOTS of beachballing as well when opening up System Info... It indicated that I have no thumbnails built for the 180K items it said it needed them for. Not sure what it could indicate I need that many thumbnails for, as my only library that's imported has 39K files, and I've got MC23 set for "Audio Only Mode". I don't look at pictures or watch videos with MC23 ... just play hi-res audio.
Any other things I should check? Are there any diagnostic log bundles (MacOS system or MC23-specific) that are helpful for JRiver to use to debug performance issues?

PS - if you feel this is more "discussion" than bug identification and extermination, please feel free to open a new thread and move the last few posts over there. ;) And, of course, thank you for your help!

Check your auto import options. Edit each folder to see what you're importing.

I'd be happy to continue the discussion with pete if someone will move it to it's own thread.
Thanks,
Brian.

That may take awhile.

You should definitely figure out why MC thinks it has ~180k files, but you think you only have ~39k .
I would start by going to the Audio > Files view. In the Location Pane, you can drill down through your directories and see what directories MC has imported. You may find that you have imported files and folders that you didn't want to. Or mean to.
You might also go to Playlists > smarlists > audio - task - missing files
It's possible that you have some dead entries pointing to old drives or something. Figuring out the state of your library and it's files in job #1 here.
Good luck!

Yeah I had the same thought - to figure out the disparity between the library item count and my actual library size. I just re-imported everything and then had it build thumbnails for the few missing items, and now that seems much more in line with reality:

Audio files: 42685

Video files: 5

I'll keep an eye out for bouncing MC23 icons in the dock (CPU / extra processes / thrashing) today but so far it seems somewhat more stable / less "beach-ball-y".
BTW, I've never experienced that behavior before. Been using MC since 19/20 on OSX.
Thanks all!

Glad to hear you got to a more "sane" state.
:)
