Title: ape/cue problem
Post by: Zsolt Andrasy on February 05, 2017, 02:21:54 pm
I have not he first time problem with ape and cue files. I have this problem with earlier versions, too.
Now I have the following:

- I have the album on the HDD
- But I cannot find it with MC22
- When I try import the album again, it doesn import, becasue it is imported, yet. No error found. “0 file imported"
- When I go like thsi:  File/Open Media File/….: “There is nothing to play”.

In spite of this I can open and play the album with VLC.

Generally I could say I have the most problem with ape files. Sometimes MC not able to import, an error indicated meanwhile I can play it with differernt appications, like VLC ot other.

You probably don't have complete (or any) metadata for the album or albums in question.  So, the files are imported, but you don't see them where you think you should because they are missing Artist, Album, etc, information.  Type part of the file name into the search box at the upper right and, if they are imported as I suspect they are, they will show up.

Good luck,

Brian.

I have tried all.
I converted the CUE file into a PDF. Please have a look.
I also made a screenshot about the mentioned files in Finder. It also a PDF file.
Thanks for the support.

Now I tried to import it again and I noticed it failed to import the CUE file.
Wonder why?
For me it seems to be correct.

So it failed to import the CUE file.  What about the APE file?  It should have imported that file unless it's bad, or you have previously deleted that file from MC's library (MC remembers the files you delete and won't import them again).

Why are you using CUE files?  They are a source of problems with MC fairly frequently.  I see no benefit to them.

Brian.

You can see in my previously attached files my APE file is only one big file including the whole album. Not track by track.  I dint know the exact rule of CUE. Maybe this kind of APE doesn't work without CUE.
The APE file is successfully imported to MC22, only the attached CUE file reported error.
I have not enough knowledge to understand the files in such details to understand all context.

Meanwhile we made a very interesting test:

My friend who use MC for Windows CAN import this APE/CUE files while I am who a MAC user cannot.

APE imported, CUE not.

I'm not a developer, nor am I a CUE file expert, so I can't directly help you any further.  But it does seem that your APE file was imported, which is a good thing.

My earlier comment/suggestion was about *why* you would use CUE files in the first place.  Why not rip your CDs as individual APE or FLACs?  Those work very well, without the extra considerations of CUE files.  CUE files cause problems in MC.

If nothing else, now you know that CUE files have a reputation for being problematic with MC.

Good luck to you.

Brian.

Hello Brian,

Thanks. I think the story is:
I have the APE in the MC, but without CUE there are no album name, no artist name, every information are missing. No any metadata.
And as I wrote if I want to use the direct play function (File/Open a Media File/...etc) is also problem:
"There is nothing to play".In spite of the APE file sits on its place in good condition.
So somehow CUE files has more information what I can see with a simple Text Editor.

Since I faced this problem I recognized many similar missing album in my collection. When I import folders every 10th album reports a problem; all about importing CUE.
But allways with APE.
Never with FLAC.

Might need our resident APE expert (well, creator) Matt on this one. He might also need a copy of the APE/CUE files too to test this.

I have found a good solution:
My friend who use Windows based MC22 transfer me all ape files into flac by MC, and I import them again - successfully.
Not a simple solution, but a solution.

Got same problem with mac version of JMC 22.
But cue file works perfectly with my windows version of JMC 21.
Also, video support is also better than mac version.
