Title: ISO Playback MC 29
Post by: mugs on September 13, 2022, 09:59:56 am
I have looked at past posts about playing ISO files. I have BD, SACD, DVD-A as well as DVD-V ISO files. It appears that MC mounts them but wont play them. I can play them in other software but not MC. I am running MC 29.0.86. If someone could help with this it would be most appreciated. Several versions back I could play anything which is why I still update everytime. I know the capability is there I just seem to not be able to find the right sequence of settings or something. Any and all help in this would be appreciated. Afterthought: SACD wants to download and it is all on my local machine....no network drives. Thanks

Seems there are a lot of people looking but no answers.

I guess the question is what platform are you using? ISO files can be mounted on Windows, but they can't in Mac or Linux so if you're using either of those, that could be why you're encountering issues. That's the best shot in the dark answer I could come up with. I'd recommend posting more information about your setup as the information thus far is pretty vague though so far it sounds like possible misconfiguration somewhere.

Thanks for the response. I am using Windows 10. As i said I can see that ISO is mounted in a virtual drive however it will not play from there. I can use PowerDVD and play the ISO. I would like to be able to hit play from MC 29 and have it mount the iso and start playing. BTW this is on Blu Ray. With the SACD ISO it appears to start downloading it. All of the ISO files are local. Any ideas would be helpful.

Has the copy protection been removed from aforementioned DVD/BD ISOs? If not, you're going to need an app like AnyDVD HD, DVDFab or MakeMKV to decrypt and remove the copy protection on-the-fly before Media Center can play them. PowerDVD does support playback of encrypted (copy protected) discs and ISOs, but Media Center does not and can't play encrypted discs and ISOs unless the copy protection has been removed using one of those apps.

For SACD ISOs, those are different and you shouldn't mount those nor do you have to worry about any copy protection. Just directly import the SACD ISO into Media Center and if your DAC is DSD capable, enable DSD bitstreaming and it should play fine. If you don't have a DSD capable DAC, Media Center will convert DSD to PCM on-the-fly and play that (be warned, DSD to PCM conversions can be very resource intensive and it's recommended to have a somewhat decent PC or Mac in order to do this on-the-fly without hiccups). An alternative to importing the SACD ISOs is to use an app like sacd_extract and extract DSF files from a SACD ISO and use/play those instead.

I followed the Wiki article (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/ISO_Files) for mounting and playing ISO files and it works flawlessly for me. I have had it set that way since MC26 I believe.

Thanks for the ideas to both. I will check into these solutions. FYI all the encryption has been removed from the BD ISO's. I will report back on results. Thanks
