Title: KingSparta:  req for the *Finder plugins
Post by: geoelectric on September 22, 2003, 04:55:57 am
I keep my albums and artists with articles moved to the back (i.e. The Sisters of Mercy becomes Sisters of Mercy, The).  In fact, MC9 has library update functions that do it for me automatically.

It would be really useful if your plugins had an option to take anything after a final comma and move it to the front of the field, sort of how you have the option now to ignore anything from the last ( on.  A lot of my searches aren't resolving because they don't recognize the name with the article.

"The" master will do that

The other plug-ins will not, and do not plan to allow it to change any artist or song names from within the finder plug-ins

The master?  I don't understand.  To clarify, I wasn't actually suggesting you change the tags--just that when you search, you have the option to "correct" the name before searching on it.

well it does a bit of that

On a scan it just does not do one check

for this artist :Sons Of Funk And Master P

it will search for

Sons Of Funk And Master P - The Best Of Sons Of Funk
Master P And Sons Of Funk - The Best Of Sons Of Funk
Sons Of Funk - The Best Of Sons Of Funk
Master P - The Best Of Sons Of Funk

for: The Talking Heads or Talking Heads, The

it already strips off "The" then scans

Also if the name was

Sons Of Funk And The Master P
Master P And Sons Of Funk
Sons Of Funk
Master P

since there is No "The" in the database on the first artist there maybe on the second but when doing a By artist search it will strip "the" off

there is many other things the program tries to match on and may do about 50 checks on one song depending on what the artist and song name contains.

it will also try to correct the spelling of a song if no matchs were made on the orginal song name.

I have made some changes today for the next release that should increase the hits. but out of 23,000 I have 600+ no matchs, and i know some of them are not in the charts.

I think Chart Finder May Do A Better Job Right Now Than Lyrics Finder when it comes to finding a match.

I however will not be adding an opton to correct the artist name and song name at this time.

Update: 2.0.8 is up now out of the 23,000+ files only 17 files are not found now, and they have some spelling. errors.

Ah, gotcha.  Sounds like you're already doing what I was hoping for.  Thanks.
