Title: "Open Live ASIO Line-In" function: not working anymore
Post by: pschelbert on October 29, 2017, 05:48:24 pm
Hi

Open Live ASIO Line-In I used to route external sound via RME UFX inputs does not work, anymore.

I use MC22.0.110.

I do not remember when it stopped working. A cause may be an update of JRiver, drivers of RME or what else?

I tested all channel offsets, 0, 2,4 ,6, 8, 10, 12 nothing works.

Does anyone know why, or has a version which works. I can update/upgrade or downgrade..

Peter

It's definitely working here for me with the latest version of 23.

When you say "stopped working", what do you mean exactly? You get an error? No error but no sound? Something else?

stopped working means earlier it worked. No sure if same MC22 version though (with the same RME UFX, but not sure with the same driver version).

There is no error message, just no sound.

"Open Live" with WASPI works.

By the way I tried also AcourateASIO. The it crashes. But never toird it earlier, so  do noit know if it worked before.

What ASIO-hardware are you using? i.e. Audiointerface?

Do you remember if it worked for you in MC22?

It works for me on both 23 and 22. I am using a motu 1248. I think I remember a problem like this once though when I had an rme ff800, don't recall specifics though so will need to search old posts to see if I can find the reason.

I found the thread - https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,91237.msg629214.html

No idea if it relates to your issue though

I will try it.

Strange thing I remembered it took a while until setting ASIO from the time I clicked to the time it was done.

Since it once worked with the RME UFX (same hardware, but not same diver, not same MC Version) I wonder what change disabled it?
Like it had to think ...

Hi

I could not get it working.

Is ist not the same as inputing an ASIO Channel in recording software like Soundforge?

In Soundforge "ASIO Fireface USB" works in parallel with JRiver, means I can play and record in Soundforge while  am  JRiver plays.

So the RME ASIO driver is multiclient

Its either a channel mapping problem ( I do not know the SAIO number of the channels, but I tired offset 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,26,17,20), or the ASIO driver is not recognized in JRiver may be?

The behaviour I saw was like jriver was opening a device on certain channels but the RME driver was not routing output to those channels. The RME driver was not a reliable multiclient driver in my setup though.

From a quick look at the manual for the UFX, the channel numbers are the same as for the FF800 so channels 1-10 are the analogue outputs, 11-12 is spdif and then it is ADAT after that. Remember that jriver asio line in offsets are 0 based so take 1 away from that number, i.e. opening 2 channels at offset 0 means analogue channels 1 & 2.

In case it is a totalmix configuration problem.... the basic process is

play to channels A & B in your playback software
set those *output* channels as loopback in totalmix
open jriver to listen on those channels
ensure the level is up on those *input* channel (i.e. they're not set to silence)
route the actual physical outputs (i.e. jriver's output device) as usual

the pic in https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=91237.0;attach=14221;image gives a hint on that routing (you can see ADAT is set as loopback on the output side and that ADAT is also up there on the input side)

okay, I will do that.

I remember to have set Offset=2 for Analog Inputs 3/4. That would match with your description.

Hi yes that did the trick:

RME UFX
1) go to HARDWARE PLAYBACK /RME Totalmix FX
Select to which output the signal shall go by clicking on the output.
Example: ADAT15/16

2) go to HARDWARE INPUTS / RME Totalmix FX
Signal on analog input, I have there Vinyl/Turnetable:
Example: Analog3/4
Set Volume Slider to volume you want, example: 0dB
Mute: off (button not blue)

Now the signal of Analog3/4 goes to output ADAT15/16

3) go to HARDWARE PLAYBACK /RME Totalmix FX
Click on an output
Example: ADAT15/16
Volume Slider: can be anything
Mute: off or on does not play a role
Loopback: ON,  this is they key!!! turn Looback ON

Now the Signal on inputs 3/4 is routed back to to inputs ADAT15/16. You dont see it in the meters!

Now: JRiver, "OPEN Live ASIO", Offset x
In the example. ADAT15/16 are channel 29 and 30. Therefore offset=28 results in 29>1, 30>2 mapping.

An you got your turntable signal, Analog3/4 into JRiver.

glad to hear that did the trick!

Its somehow strange that Analog-Input to ASIO-in is not working via "Open Live", and why?
It may well be an interop issue of the RME-ASIO driver and JRiver.

However its working fine, so nothing really to worry about :)

Hi, i try this trick ... but it is not working  :(

- i want to listen Spdif IN - > Channels 13/14
- loopback as you say - ADAT 15/16
- set jriver to 2 channels mode

No sound, nothing in meter on RME, nothing in meter on jriver Analyzer ...

Whats wrong ?

Hi

looks okay on Input, signal ist there, slider is up (0dB) and not muted (outpute 15/16 sselectd before).
I see you switches loopbakc on on channel 15/16.
It works even when you mute 15/16 and slider to minus inf.

You should see a signal at "software playback". Then to see it on ouput map it to "hardware outputs" in Totalmix.

The offset "28" maps 15/16 to "software output" 1/2.

I have Totalmix V1.43, MC222.0.110 (32bit).
What do you have, may be there a difference?

Otherwise I see nothing wrong

Peter
