Could not find answer to this simple task:
When I import albums , all of the tracks are added to playlist.
Is there a setting that will prevent doing so?
I would like to control this myself.
There is big mess in playlist.
-
MC doesn't automatically add imported files to playlists, with one exception. There is a special playlist called Recently Imported. Is that the one you're talking about?
-
I have changed setting - clear recently imported and ripped - on exit o all; hence I believe there is no Recently Imported;
but before it had what can be seen in attached image.
Playlist - highlighted in blue
-
I did one more try, recently imported are visible in Recently Imported and when viewed on highlighted Playlists, like I have shown in attached screen.
I'm learning, it is very complex.
Nothing in playing now.
I guess it like it should be.

Off-topic observation: I'd recommend separating Artist names with a semicolon (; ). That way, each name is recognized as an Artist by the library. When separated with a comma (,), like shown in your screen shot, the library treats Artist1, Artist2
as a single Artist. You can easily change this by putting this
=Replace([Artist],/,,/;)
in the Artist field in tag editor and pressing <Enter>

When you select the top-level Playlists item in the Tree, it shows the "contents" of ALL Playlists in the File Listing. So, the reason those files are showing up there is that they ARE included in (at least one) Playlist: The Recently Imported one Jim mentioned, if not others.
But the key to understand, is if you select a View in the Tree, it always shows the results of itself, and those "under" it.
-
new observation:
having changed setting to: Tools - Options - General - Advanced : Clear Recently Imported and Recently Ripped on exit: Remove all tracks,
after restarting MC I get this (Recently imported disappeared from Playlists menu):
Tracks still show up in Playlists - highlighted in blue. I would like to understand it a little bit more.
-
and in Windows, PLAYLISTS - highlighted looks differently (without any tracks),
I'm confused.
Which is right?
-
Click on the little triangle to the right of the word Playlists on the left.
-
No change when clicked, the same picture.
What is a difference between Mac version and Windows here?
Mac is full of tracks.
-
If you select the upper level “Playlists” you’ll be prompted with all the content of all playlists under that level.
What happens if you click on one single playlist (one of the playlist under the upper level)?
-
in current situation:
Windows - nothing in subfolders, Playlists - highlighted display green/black box as seen
Mac - nothing in subfolders, Playlists - highlighted displays range of tracks, as seen in attached screen
Could not find explanation for this.

I have no playlists, and nothing in playlists; so why it is showing all my albums in top PLAYLIST view? It is different in Windows MC, there is nothing showing there.
I had no explanation so far why MC's in two different OSes behave in different way.
I think it is a bug in Mac version.
I suspect that I will have all my albums displayed there. As for now I am testing everything before importing thousands of albums into MC.
it is easier just with 4 albums. I can do all kind of experiments. Importing, deleting etc., to reach the best setup for MC.
cheers,

Open the Playlists category and then select each playlist. It should make more sense.
Some of the playlists are automatically created from smartlists.
Just look at each one.
-
As per your advice, I opened each of the playlists:
car lists
recently played
top hits
web media
and they are empty. Nothing there. I have no play lists and nothing in the playlists.
Recently imported (playlist) disappeared on exit with : remove all on exit setting.
But when I highlight PLAYLISTS - all of my albums (currently 4) are displayed with all tracks.
Nothing in MC27 under Windows. Only green / black box with text. No such box in Mac OS MC.
I think I understand your instructions correctly. If no then let me know.
It seems to me that top of the tree : PLAYLISTS has reference also to full main library. In addition to all playlists.
-
err
-
You're not wrong.
On Windows, the "Playlists" node does show just an info panel about what are Playlists and Smartlists, regardless of the actual playlist contents under that node. It doesn't show any aggregated view. I can't test under Mac, so I'm not sure if that's a bug or an actual difference in implementation.
Since it's showing stuff for you that isn't actually present in any node under the Playlists, I would say it looks like some bug.
-
any plans to get it fixed? Can you update me pls on this one?
-
I don't work for JRiver. Jim does.
-
and how I can get Jim's attention to this bug?
-
He's usually reading. He has already answered above.
If you right-click on the "playlists" node, do you get an option to "Customize View", or just options to Add list/smartlist/Export?
-
right click gives the latter one: add, export etc
left click - all tracks from library
-
no action planned to correct the bug?

It turned out to be a pretty minor bug. That's not supposed to show anything other than the html page describing playlists like on windows.
Not even sure what it's displaying there but it it's fixed going forward.

congrats; on the road to perfection, this is what we all are aiming for.
