Title: Small form factor 4k graphics card suggestions
Post by: Z0001 on April 17, 2019, 06:55:51 pm
Hi there

I have an OrigenAE ST21 case as my HTPC case. I have 182mm x 115mm for a double height graphics card (allowing for HDD).

I had my eye on one of the mini ITX GTX 1060 6GB cards from Zotac, MSI and EVGA as suitable for 4k HDR playback. I will also want to upscale 1080p and 720p to 4k.

The small RTX cards are bigger than their GTX cousins as far as I have seen.

Am I looking at the right level of power? Any other suggestions?

Many thanks
Z

I am on 1070 … 4K is fine … I think 1060 is fine (6GB version) for 4k … you wont be able to use max settings for upscaling of course (1070 cannot use max scaling too) … but results are still better than good

Greetings:

I just resurrected my black Origen S21T case two days ago.  It has been dormant over five years. In the past, I have Windows 7 and 8 on it, then discarded the mobo, then installed Asus P6 mobo.
As we speak, I am setting it up. The case is small, you will look for Zotax rtx 2070 mini, gtx 1070 mini(old) stock.
I think there are 2 versions of the RTX 2070 card.

I am making plans to pick up one of the RTXs. It is on my radar. It takes up 2 slots, about 8.8 inches long. It will fit the Origen S21T case.
I plan on using this build for Ubuntu/Android.. dual boot.(hopefully JRiver for Android will have Video features soon)
If you want to use it for Linux, there is a Linux driver for touch screen on the Origen website.
If you can not find it, let me know. I will file attach to you via PM.

Origen S21T is a very difficult case to build on, because of its small size. I have torn apart mine and reassembled twice.
Cable management is very important.
I fitted mine with Corsair memory sticks, on top of it is a Corsair fan to cool down the memory.
I have the rear fans in push and pull configuration.
I plan on putting the VGA fan metal schroud on top of the Nvidia card to help suck out the heat from the case.
I hope this info helps.

Thanks Ekpen

i measured up the case video card sizing spec form the OrigenAE website and it looks tight for a single fan GTX 1070 (or RTX) when also fitting 5 HDD on the same side, an ODD and the horizontal mounted fan and shroud.

Do you think different or have you actually done this install yet - very keen to know how you have got on - any pictures?

Had another look at this. Even without the 5th HDD there is a vertical height limit to 120mm so the 2070 and 1070 don't seem to fit.

Have you managed to get one into the case?

Cheers

Any more thoughts on small form factor graphics cards for 4k playback and upscaling?
