Title: flac files erased during backup to mp3

In saving my flac files to a separate directory as mp3 files - I must have clicked the wrong button - because all of the flac files are gone. Other than redoing a 2 year project- any way to retrieve them?

as long as you have not written to the disk since the files vanished, they might all still be there and intact on the disk. You could use a file recovery program such as this one which I used it to successfully recover files from a damaged hard disk).it's (rightly) not free

then you will need to run a flac verify program to check if any of the files are corrupt (i.e. written over since they were deleted.)
