Title: Question about Lyrics on JRemote or Gizmo
Post by: hifiaudio2 on September 04, 2014, 09:45:05 am
So I just downloaded JRiver 20 and installed it and its running fine.  I really haven't tweaked much other to set Wasapi output.  I am connecting USB to my Emotiva XMC-1 processor's asynchonous USB input. Hopefully I have it set to output the music basically untouched by JRiver or any of the windows audio settings.

My main use for JRiver is the music jukebox and being able to select my music with one of the gui remotes (haven't decided whether to use JRemote or Gizmo yet).

My question is do either or both of the remote options have the capability to fetch and display song lyrics automatically?  If so, do I need a plugin for this?

Thanks for the help!

Follow up.. I installed the Gooroomp package to get lyrics on the computer interface (havent installed a remote yet),  but cant seem to find anywhere to see any lyrics.  How does one get this info to pull up?

JRemote will only display lyrics that are embedded in the tags.

There are lots of lyrics sites on the net, but most of them are illegal.
The only real option is to subscribe to a commercial lyrics database, but the prices are very steep.

Oh wow.  Ok thanks.  I had no idea there was a legal issue around lyrics...  My Synology has an official plugin for the DS audio app that just gets them so I assumed it was a pretty normal thing to do.

I dont really understand why my Synology wont play back to my preamp's asynchronous USB input anyway.  JRiver on the PC plays back on it just fine,  and the Synology "sees"  the USB dac chip,  but nothing plays.

How do apps like Soundhound (free) get past the restriction?

Some apps do things that aren't permitted.

Some are permitted by the site owner.

Some are permitted because they are free.

According to their site their lyrics are legal, so they either license a lyrics database, or maintain their own database and pay license directly
to the record labels.

Either way, they pay for their lyrics.
