Title: can't play DVD

I try to play a DVD and I'm told the system is not properly configured, get Intervideo DVD pack. I click view error text and it says ffdshow cannot be used. I try to change it and MC crashes. If I go directly to options/DVD playback, before trying to play a DVD, MC crashes.  I can't even change the settings
