Title: File Sequence Problems on iPod
Post by: ralescio on May 12, 2014, 09:02:44 pm
I have a very large group of files (800+) that I wish to have in alpha-numeric sequence on my iPod. There is no problem when they are in Media Center (Ver. 16). The Filename is the same as the Name, or title.
Here is an example of a file name (they are recorded BBC Radio panel game shows):
0379 1987.06.20 Jersey (KW, DN, CF, PJ).mp3

However, once they are loaded on the iPod, the sequence (1,2,3, etc.) goes wacky with numerous files way out of order. It does not matter if I insert track numbers - same problem. I do not experience this with any other group of files.

So, my questions are these:
1) How can I keep the order as they appear in Media Center?
2) Is there some problem with my file naming system?

I hope someone can help :'(

Which view are you using on the iPod?  Which type of iPod?  I assume you're using the Music app?

I have put these on a 120 Gig and a 160 Gig Classic iPod. I do not use playlists - I sort files by Album. And, I only use Media Center for music and these other audio files.

Check your Disc # field for the tracks.  See also:

I don't know what you mean by Disc #. These files were downloaded from the internet or, in some cases recorded live off the net. No discs. AND, I do not use iTunes.
Thanks anyway))

MC has a Disc # field! and if your files happen to have a value, it gets transferred to the iPod along with all the other file tags in the file.  If the Disc # field has bogus values, you can see peculiar sorting.  So check the Disc # field in MC for the files.  You can use the Tag Action Window, or a column in the file list.

I found the Disc #, and I deleted the values. I tried a group of files and it seems to work fine.
Thank you very much! Made my day!

I do wonder what those values represent and from where do they come.
