Title: two questions about jriver on the mac
Post by: bakufu on September 02, 2020, 01:54:49 pm
1) does jriver require an internet connection in order to perform periodic license checks?

2) does jriver automatically play albums without audible pauses between tracks?  (e.g. opera, classical, &c.)

regarding 1), i am not interested in streaming, or in multiple endpoints.  i have a single audio system, and all my music is resident on a local drive.

regarding 2), automatic gapless playback is an absolute requirement for me.

1.  Not required for licensing after you first license it.   See Restoring a License on our wiki for more information.

2.  That's called gapless and you can set it on or off in MC.

thanks -- that is almost exactly the information i was looking for.  can i set gapless playback once and for all on all albums, or is a case-by-case setting required?  (i.e. can i make gapless the default?)

oh - one further question, although i think i know the answer - i just want to confirm.

my source is a mac mini and my music library is about 3tb of high-res files resident on an external drive.  when i install jriver and point it towards the drive, does it copy the files to my mac, or just create a database of pointers?  i have to believe that the latter is the case ....

thanks again!

Gapless is global and it's on by default. There's gapless options in MC's Settings > Audio section if you want to customize it. :)

Also MC will import the music, it won't move your files (it can if you wanted it to, but that's a different option), so just a database.
