Title: AirPlay support
Post by: 6233638 on April 18, 2014, 11:55:56 am
Are there plans to improve AirPlay support?
The current "AirPlay [Core Audio]" will only send audio to the first device listed (presumably alphabetically) in the Sound Preferences.

When there are multiple AirPlay devices, the only way I have found to direct audio to a specific one is to change the default device and play audio to "(Default) [Core Audio]" instead.

It would be helpful if we could direct audio to a specific device.

And related to this, Media Center does not seem to know what to do when that device is busy.
I thought it simply wasn't playing anything when multiple devices were available and AirPlay [Core Audio] was selected, but it turned out that the first device in the list was currently busy.
Media Center just acted as if it was playing to the device and everything was working correctly. (playback process continued etc.)

I would love this feature too.  It would really improve my MC experience dramatically.

There is, finally, an AirPlay API included with 10.8 and newer, but all of the documentation is for IOS and doesn't much mention OS X.

It is, however, possible to do:

I should mention this here, though:

Don't know how well it syncs (probably not like AirFoil, for which substantial time and effort was invested in making it sync reasonably well).  But, still, it could potentially solve some of the problems 6233638 listed.

I only have the one AirPlay device, so I (personally) haven't had much cause to need more than what is built into Mavericks.
