Title: J River 17 Just Won't Stop Stalling
Post by: parisphoto on October 23, 2012, 10:40:54 am
I sure could use some help.
J River will play for & hours, sometimes for 8 minutes.
The program will then stall.
Sometimes hitting the Stop button & then the Start button will get it going again, sometimes I have to reboot my system.
No BSD, no Windows errors reported.
At times, changing tracks will cause the program to stall.
I ran J River w/all equipment downstream of PC off with the same results.
Vista 32 Home, 4 mb memory, Dell precision Workstation. Services stopped re CA article, Norton Anti Virus disabled via ~ before every Norton exe file.
PC is just used for audio via JR 17.
Auto Import is off.
J River & Vista all updated to latest versions.
I searched the forums, and haven't found a solution.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

As a test, please try a couple things:

1) Tell DSP Studio > Output Format to resample all the audio to the same sample rate (to avoid sample rate changes between tracks)
2) Switch audio output modes (I'd recommend WASAPI - Event Style): http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Output_Modes

Let us know what you find, and we'll go from there.

All files are 16/41 flac ripped via JR.
Output Format is unchecked.
I normally run Wasapi Event Style, but running plain Wasapi has no effect on problem.
I emailed you two log files from two different days. The first stall occurred after many hours of play, the second stalled after a very short time.

I'm getting similar stalling problems. Granted, I'm a newbie to MC (i.e. installed yesterday) and am using it to control Magic Streamer 6 device from My River iPad app. All works really well, but it will randomly freeze. I.E. MC itself will lock up. It can be minutes or many hours later. Becoming very annoying. Any findings, do please post.

I've been testing all day with just J River MC17 running on PC, controlling the Magic streamer 6. All perfect, no hic'ups. The same socket errors appear now and again in the logs (can't find out what else is using the port/socket, most odd). The only factor different here is that my iPad My River app is turned off! I'm assuming the app is causing the problem; although a question for people:

o To enable My River to control the Magic Streamer, I link the PC Player to the Magic Streamer 6 device Zone. Is this wise?? Is this how it should be done? I.E. I change the playing PC track and it automatically switches the Streamer. Is there a way to not having to Link these? I.E. make the streamer device the only Zone? I'll fire a message to the iPod/iPad group.

Thanks and kind regards

Carl

I am also getting a playback problem but with video on mkv and iso material. Suddenly playback will just stop and screen will go black. I can hit stop and then play and might get just the audio no picture or nothing happens.  Hitting pause/play has no effect. I have to exit MC and start play again to resume, but it recurs.

It's an intermittant effect. Material either on wired network, or external eSATA drive.

Any ideas, it's quite disabling! Latest MC17 build.

My problem is definitely linked to the My River app. It can be as soon as starting the app, to having added many tracks to the player. So I don't think this is related to your problem.
