Title: Paypal was failing [service is restored now]
Post by: invictus0990 on October 14, 2009, 01:23:51 am
Hey, I just purchased MC14 through PayPal and after sending the money and being transferred back to the Media Center website I got the message "We could not authenticate your transaction." I checked my email and the money went through with PayPal. I went to the PayPal support page and entered my Transaction ID and email address, but it still keeps saying that it could not authenticate my transaction, even though they took my money! Someone please help.

On our Restore Page, you'll find this:

If you made your purchase through PayPal, and the purchase wasn't completed immediately, you can complete it on the PayPal Support Page (https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/paypal_support.cgi).

It sounds like that's what you've tried.  If it fails, it probably means there is a problem on the Paypal end.  Please try it every few hours today.  We will investigate.  It's 6:55 AM here, so expect an answer in about 3 hours. More below.

I'm sorry for the problem.

Still not working...

I just purchased the v14 upgrade via Paypal and it says there's a problem with authentication, but the payment was made and I have a transaction number.

We've identified where it fails, and it's on the Paypal side.  We're trying to get Paypal to look at it.

Please wait to retry.  I'll post here when it's working again.

Paypal has acknowledged that they're having connection problems.

We'll let you know more when we know more.

Paypal shows the transaction as completed, but your PayPal Support page cannot authenticate.

While I understand there are difficulties on the PayPal end, I am reluctant to pay by another method since PayPal is showing a completed payment and I do not wish to pay twice.

You've paid.  Thanks.  Don't do anything else.

This is a problem affecting other Paypal sellers.  It isn't just JRiver.

So this means, even though we've paid, we're without a license until this issue is resolved...whenever it's resolved? I have to admit I'm somewhat disappointed.

I'm sorry.  This is a Paypal problem, and out of our control.  It's also a problem we've never seen before.

If it isn't solved this morning, we'll send everyone a substitute license.

I'm not sure if this helps, but PayPal is saying the issue is resolved...

We're back on line now.  Paypal has fixed the problem.

We have decided to refund the purchases that were left in limbo.  You will receive an e-mail shortly that notifies you of the refund.

Once you've received it, please re-try the purchase and post your results here.

Thanks.  Sorry again for the problem.

PayPal was refunded and my repurchase and licensing were successful.

Thanks.

I have the same problem, though 1 1/2 years since the last post evidently.  I purchased Media Center 16 this evening, and am unable to authenticate using the transaction info in the PayPal e-mail.  Any help that could be provided would be appreciated.
