Title: Crackles while streaming certain DSF files
Post by: jlyness on November 20, 2017, 12:25:31 pm
I rip my SACD ISO files to DSF files using Sonore's ISO2DSD. Playback is fine when using a DAC connected to the computer running JRiver MC23 via USB. But some of these files consistently have loud crackles and pops in certain spots -- always the same spots in the track -- when streaming the DSF to a Sonore microRendu (which in turn is connected to a USB DAC). It's only some DSF files that do this, most play just fine. Any ideas what might account for this / what to do about it? It seems odd that the same file will crackle via one method and not the other.

If it's happening in the same spot(s) in the track(s), it might be an issue with the DSF files themselves.

So why does the same file play back fine, no crackles, when playing to a directly-connected USB DAC?

Sonore's conversion is just inconsistent.  The SAME ISO file, on the SAME computer, converting to DSF within hours of each other gets me dsf files with same size but completely different checksums.  That might explain the crack/pop's I am hearing also.
