I just purchased the full set of Buckethead Pikes....260 some "albums" (about 30 min per album) these are digital files as Flac.
I am trying to tag these, but MC slows to a crawl. This is even after letting it sit over night to make sure the files have fully imported.
What's up?
-
Hard to say. Please provide more details.
Antivirus?
-
Same anti virus I have always used....Norton V22
I have finally finished tagging....let's see if it keeps bogging down after another reboot.
Maybe?
I had to rebuild my windows 10 Hard drive after a bad crash a few weeks ago. Drive C
I reinstalled MC over a previous install on Drive D (since I didn't have to mess with D with the crash)..could this have caused this and my issues with my Id not working as it used to. (I found a work around for that...I can play it with the controls on my Ipad, but cannot play music directly from the Id like I used to)

Go to Help > System Info and look at Background Tools Running. If there's anything running (e.g. thumbnails and/or audio analyzing) that might explain why it's slow.
-
No background tools running.
Processing lists: I am guessing these are causing MC to be sluggish
-- Thumbnails built 17% (that numbers has not changed in the few minutes I had it open and I did try the refresh button)
-- audio analysed 86% (ditto above)
Is there a way to force those to finish?
-
I suggest that you wait until MC23 finishes analyzing audio etc. On my PC this is quite resource intensive (not a latest/greatest pc). Once it finishes it will tell you Done then the response time should be much better.
-
I guess that is the problem....even after waiting over night, these files have not finished....they appear to be stuck.
-
shouldn't MC be installed on drive c:
-
Same anti virus I have always used....Norton V22
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it's not the problem. Each build of MC may be treated differently. The only way to be certain is to uninstall the antivirus software and reboot.
-
I have gotten to the point that I have 100% of files analysed, but still have only 92% of thumbnail built. I can't seem to find any files that need to be checked to have thumbnail checked. Still a problem?
Jim is wrong....antivirus has been uninstalled and even windows rudimentary AV is off, but still the program is still sluggish to the point I cant use it without a reboot.
-
When I first start MC after a reboot, all runs well. But after running JRiver for any more than 10 minutes, the program becomes sluggish. The rest of the computer and all of the other software is fine.... just MC is sluggish. I don't even need to use MC for it to become sluggish...why I asked if there was a memory leak.
-
Anything is possible, but it's not likely. The new version is in heavy use now and we're not seeing this kind of problem frequently.
-
Running two different antivirus programs at the same time isn't a good idea.
Windows Defender has also caused problems recently.

No...I don't run both at the same time....When I uninstall Norton, Windows wants to run Windows AV....I turn it off then...otherwise it is off when Norton is installed.
This is a computer with hardware less than 1 year old, Windows 10 that is updated, and a fresh install of Win10. Norton AV or no AV at all. No different software than before the crash other than using 64bit MC (this still occurred when I tried 32 Bit MC after the crash) and Bins. Do I need to completely wipe out MC and reinstall? Does it need to be on C drive instead of D drive? I tried everything else that I can think of before posting here. I have no other problems on my PC other than this. The only new software that I am running post crash is "bins 1.5", but I tried to run without this as well with no alleviation of the issue.
My last resort is to uninstall MC and see if I can nuke it from registry and then reinstall unless there is another idea. (memory leak even doesn't sound relevant since no other software is sluggish). Any ideas that I haven't tried?
-
I don't know what the problem is. Sorry.
I don't know of a problem installing to D:, but it may not often be done.
Did you carefully read the link I gave you?
-

I'm not sure what MC does if you have one or more corrupt files.
For a test I would copy a few known good files into a folder, clear your library within MC, and set auto import to only the new test folder. Turn off audio analyzing and build thumbnails in the import settings and go from there, and make sure "Ignore files previously removed.... " is unchecked.

I read it....defender is off on my PC

Both of the 1st 2 were unchecked. (they were not initially, but earlier today I unchecked them.
"ignore" was checked, but it is not now.....so far no change. I'll try another reboot. If no change, I will uninstall and then install on C drive tomorrow.

Try setting Windows Defender as was recommended by Awesome Donkey.
You can't really turn antivirus software off. It's always there.
-
I sympathize...
Just a thought if mc is on your d drive are your library files too ?
I have a SSD for c for program files and library files
A big disc may slow response to the library
Your C reinstall may show that too

Yes...I read over it, but I don't believe that exactly applies to me. Defender is of (i.e. no setting tab). I have set up exclusions within Norton, but this did not help.

MC is now on C drive
Audio files are on M drive
I never had a problem before with my files on M drive. 683Gb on M drive....I am sure people have much larger music collections.
-
I have to guess that this has something to do with it....see awesome donkey post way above.
-
your don't say if having MC on C: helped?....
and what are those 1369 other files?....
the actual music files can reside on any type of drive be it m or x y or z drive. MC and it's library need to be on c: drive ....
I have 367,063 files on several hard drives on a Qnap nas and I have never experienced any problems accessing those files MC takes a few moments to wake up the nas.
on your installation of MC did your fire wall not pop up and ask for permission?

MC on C did NOT help
The other files are text file, logs and pdfs .......I am deleting all the txt and log files......the pdf files are all booklets from digital downloads.
MC and library are on C drive now, music files are on M drive

well I am only a novice with MC. If following the advice of the gurus don't help something is messed up. I noticed your JRMark was 500 points lower than mine but I have no clue what a good or bad JRMark would be....I also noticed that your version of JRMark is 23.0.73 while mine is 23.0.59 not sure what that means either just making comparisons is all. I hope you get to the bottom of your issues as JRiver MC is the finest player out there....good luck

Importing a large collection over a network could take a while. It the network is especially slow, even longer. Let it run. Don't kill it.
You could try importing a single directory, without running auto-import.
You could try importing a single file type. Something not too exotic.

All files are on local hard drives within the PC (nothing is being imported over a network connection). As far as I can tell, all the files have been imported other than the ones that appear to be stuck - you can see in my attached image
-
OK...I changed my import folder from drive m to nothing and then rebooted MC. I then the import to M again and all of the missing files were found. Now I am 100% on both thumbnail and analysed. Are they still supposed to show in the processing area? See attached.
Still very sluggish mouse wheeling through artists/albums
-
Since you recently rebuilt your os, check to make sure your video card has the proper driver. Not having a good driver for your video card could result in this slow scrolling.

yes that would be normal....
have you checked to see what is running in the background of windows? kill any unnecessary apps. also check whats running in the background of your browsers and as kensn has mentioned- drivers
-
just a thought but those drives are not too full or possibly bad sectors? ....run a scan and see maybe...

No errors....all hard drives are healthy
Only about 1/4 full
Benchmarks are where they are supposed to be as well

There was a new driver and I did install it. Rebooted and waited awhile before messing with MC....still sluggish on scroll (or when I use the slide bar up the right side)
-
Any chance you've got another PC on-site that could be pressed into service for testing? At least rule out if it's your PC or not.
-
Thanks to everyone trying to help with this issue. I have finally found the culprit! After systematically removing 1 program at a time, I found the guilty party. Bins! Who would have guessed that a program that groups shortcut icons on your taskbar would interfere with a program like JRiver?
I don't know why MC was the only program to suffer. What a waste of many hours :(
-
Well Done....
-
Thanks for reporting the solution and thanks for your patience in the hunt.

Apps that attempt to interact with the taskbar have always had an uphill battle. The various APIs available haven't really given enough accessibility to do what developers think they want. So work-arounds are attempted, and those run the risk of potential problems. Been there, done that, decided to abandon the development effort. I'd wonder what was happening such that the Bins program felt it needed to do something that resulted in the problems you encountered.

After a brief check of the web....not compatible with Win 10. I should have checked on that first, but I never considered such a small program could cause a problem as I have used it on previous versions of Windows on my laptop.
