Title: Crashes on Snow Leopard - jtwrace [Solved]
Post by: jtwrace on October 08, 2013, 07:00:19 pm
Thanks for the continuing effort.  MC19.0.53 still crashes for me.  I sent a log.

Yes, SL.  All was working fine until MC19.

From the logs you've sent, I think you've had two separate issues - one was the problem fixed in the 53 build where as soon as you clicked on "Audio" in the tree, it would beach-ball (should be fixed by 53), and the other is a crash during library searches.  It might be helpful for you to send me a backup of your library so I can test the search function here and hopefully reproduce the problem. Thanks!

Yes, no more beach-ball.  Thanks.  The search seems OK so far. The issue is that when I get to an album and play it, stop and maybe pick another track or another album MC19.0.53 just quits.

File > Library > Backup Library

Then send this to you?

Yes, just send me the zip file it creates.

So does the playback problem seem random rather than related to a particular file or set of files?  If you have a track that consistently causes a crash, you could dropbox that file to me.

I will do that later when I'm home.

That's just it.  It's not any particular file.  I thought it was at first but I can make it happen with just about any file that I try.  16/44 > DSD

I have confirmed that auto import certainly doesn't help the cause.  I tried it again and it crashes nearly every time I try to play a track.

Ok, so it sounds like the problem is unrelated to searching the library.  It sounds like it's a playback problem.  Here are some data points:

1. it's happening on OSX 10.6.8
2. it seems to have started with MC19
3. the same track will play OK sometimes, and crash other times, usually (always?) when you've clicked Stop on one track and started another track

So let's approach this methodically.  Please send me one of the tracks that is crashing during playback, then let's both follow these steps:
1. copy the track to a location on the local hard drive
2. start Media Center 19.0.53 and clear the library (make a backup first)
3. turn off auto-import
4. import the single track
5. test playback until it crashes
6. send a log file

OK John.

I will get to it when I get back from RMAF in Denver, CO.

Sounds good - enjoy the audio show!

Let's switch the testing to the just posted build 54 as it fixes a definite problem that was causing crashes for several people.

Have fun. Are you going to have a chance to connect with Matt (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=84280.0)?

For what it is worth, I am running Snow Leopard and have just tested ver 54.  Everything seems to continue to be working fine.  Keep up the good work.  Volume changes are smooth.

I hope I'll be able to find him!  I usually do not do the seminars as there is just so much to see.

This is great to hear!

Sorry, but build 54 didn't get the latest code changes.  Please use build 55 which was posted this morning.

I'll have to copy two tracks to the local HD probably.  Is that OK or should I really just try to get it to crash with one?  I'd like to try this tonight if I can stay awake.

Yes, that's fine to try with two tracks.  If you can reproduce the crash with those two, could you dropbox them to me?

I update to 19.0.55 and all seems fine now and I clicked around quite a bit.  Should I turn on auto import and see if it's still good?  Or just use it more as is and report back after some more time.

Sure, use it for a period of time, then turn on auto-import and if import fails, send me a log.  Thanks!

Logs sent.  I'm really tempted to just upgrade to Mountain Lion and see if it works.  OR build a Mac.

Just to update.  19.0.57 has been working very well.  In fact, I've had it playing for 24 hrs straight on repeat and it's still going.  This is good news for us 10.6.8 users.

Thanks a bunch to John T for his patience thus far.  It's very much appreciated.

Still going...36 hrs.  This is a first! Even MC18 didn't do this.
