Drugo,

The previous email answers those questions, please read/translate it carefully.

The screenshot on the previous post shows the sort order, notice the small numbers (1,2,3,4) next to each column. Those show up when you click on them - first on Track#, then on FileType, then Album, ten Artist - the numbers will change as you click on the columns.

Yes, you should keep the SEQ column as that shows you the actual play order, which can be different from the listed order.

To avoid having to sort every time, you should use Playlists and Views.

How are they connected?  Direct or network?  Is the Denon set to the correct mode?

For diagnosis, just play a single file, something easy like ordinary FLAC stereo.

Power everything off and back on.

Trust is a big issue for me with ripping.

You can fix a tagging problem. You can't fix a ripping problem.

I have ripped with JRiver for 20 years and never had even a hint of a problem, whereas I have seen many screwed up rips made by people with other apps that probably didn't even know they had a problem.

I trust Matt and JRiver.
Thanks.  And thanks to JohnT, who wrote our ripping a couple decades ago.  He's retired now, but his work isn't.

Hello @Jappie,

Thanks for posting all your impressive work.  In version 1.1 I liked your Player-Control buttons (similar to Modern Cards: Dark), but the appearance was somewhat lacking in quality and I didn't find the size I wanted.  I see in the notes for version 1.4 you have now improved them.

Inspired, I worked up a variation for use with my modified Dark on Dark skin.  The PlayerBar_PrevButton and PlayerBar_NextButton are simplified, resembling their minimalist Segoe Fluent Icon font counterparts.  Also added suggestive bright colors and slight size expansion during mouseover for additional clarity.  I use them at Windows Scale 100% and MC Size 100% on a 1920x1200 monitor.  Files are attached in case you are curious.  :)

I would like to request a new List Style option that is somewhere between the current Thumbnails and Album Thumbnails styles. I would like to create smartlists that sort albums in a particular way (based on a computed field), and display the list as Album Thumbnails but retaining the sort order specified by the smartlist. It seems that the Album Thumbnails style currently adjusts the order, I expect to ensure that each album thumbnail appears only once. That makes sense to me, but isn't always what I want. It would also be useful to have a List Style that behaves like the current Thumbnails style, which does not affect the sort order, but which collapses only adjacent entries which have the same "album". That way, if a user specifies a sort order where all tracks of an album appear adjacent to each other, they will all get collapsed into one thumbnail image, but if the user elects an order where the tracks of an album are not necessarily adjacent, then an album thumbnail might appear multiple times.

This seems somewhat ad hoc. It would probably be better, though more work, to expose the collapsing that the current Album Thumbnails list style performs in the smartlist query language. That way the current behavior could be expressed as an extra `~sort:[Album]` followed by a hypothetical `~list_collapse:[Album]`, and users could then elect to leave out the former sort or do whatever.

I am using MC31 on a Win 10 PC and have previously been able to play a large smart playlist on a Denon AVRX3300.  I have made no changes, but now when I select the Denon as the player, and select the music playlist, instead of starting to play, the line beneath the song title shows "Waiting", and does not change.  Pressing Play, etc. has no effect.

I have rebooted, etc. multiple times with no effect.

Any ideas?

I’m playing around now with the Linux distro of Media Center and want to export my library in Windows and import into Linux.  It’s going from a v32 Windows to v32 Linux.

I’m intending for the Linux installation to just act as a media server, no playback.  Playback will be from MC clients on Windows and JRemote that connect to the Linux server via Media Network

Is there any issues to be aware of?  All my media links use network UNC file paths, not Windows drive letters.

First of all, JRiver Media Center does have a good ripping program. It does secure mode rips as well as other secure mode ripping programs. I've tested a variety of CDs ripped in secure mode using JRiver and EAC, and the rips had the same CRC values. Even for CDs that had some scratches. Plus the MC ripper can import the ripped files directly into your library. Which is convenient.

The advantages for using other ripping programs would be for speed and for better metadata.

Ripping programs that support AccurateRip can be configured to rip in burst mode and use AccurateRip to catch any ripping errors. Burst mode is more than twice as fast as secure mode. Which saves time and is a big benefit if you're sitting in front of hundreds of CDs that need to be ripped. CDs that have errors in burst mode can be set aside and ripped in secure mode later. dBpoweramp, EAC, and CueRipper all support AccurateRip verification.

Better metadata sources is also a big benefit. Being able to grab metadata from different sources like MusicBrainz, Discogs, and GD3 makes tagging much easier and much faster. Especially for classical music. dBpoweramp has the best tagging editing with the ability to pull metadata from multiple sources and let you mix and match fields from the different sources. dBpoweramp's PerfectMeta tagging dialog is really nice. And a big time saver. Especially for classical. EAC and CueRipper can also be configured to get metadata and do lookups from MusicBrainz and Discogs.

CUERipper is part of CUETools. It is free. Does AccurateRip verification (as well as CTDB verification). Can get metadata from freedb (gnudb), Discogs, and MusicBrainz. And I find it easier to use and easier to configure than EAC. CUETools doesn't have an installer. It is distributed as a zip file. You install it as you would a portable app. You run it by making your own shortcuts or by double-clicking on the exe file.

Read the Volume topic on the wiki.  And also the WDM topic may be useful.
