On Windows, the "optimize volume for best sound quality" sets the system volume to 100% when playback starts so that all volume control is handled by MC's internal controls.
On OS X this setting does not appear to do anything.
If the system was previously muted, system audio stays muted rather than being set to 100%.
If I try to turn up the device volume in the system Audio/MIDI App while MC is playing (using Internal Volume) it instantly gets reset to its previous value until I stop playback.
