Title: Questions about Upgrading to MC20 for Mac?
Post by: JimH on July 30, 2014, 05:28:47 pm
Mac Instructions (http://wiki.JRiver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC20_for Mac)      Mac Upgrade Purchase (http://www.JRiver.com/purchase_20_mac_as_upgrade.html)

Please use this thread if something doesn't work.

A few answers first:

1.  MC20 builds are on the Download Page.

2.  Anyone who bought MC19 for Mac after July 1, 2014, has received an MC20 for Mac license.

3.  You can retrieve your old license(s) by using option 2 on the Restore Page (https://rover.JRiver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi).

What's new in MC20? Only stability or major features?

What's the plan for MC20 for Mac?  My setup is working great as it is, not sure if MC20 is for me...

Thanks,
Peter.

Just received an email telling me about the upgrade offer. Decided to back you guys as an act of faith as I like what we have had so far.

Tried three times to enter my working MC19 registration code only to be told that it was not recognised. Penny dropped - the upgrade link in the email only takes you the PC version, not the Mac one that I and many others have. It all worked well from there on.

To save much frustration for other Mac users, can you add a Mac link to your email so that Mac users go straight to the Mac upgrade without having to puzzle it out?

As you know which of your licences are Mac and which are PC, could you not have two distinct mailing lists from which you could send out the relevant email to each user group?

Looking forward to the 'faster, easier to use, more powerful, and better looking MC20'.

I just tried to do pre-purchase the mac MC20 upgrade (from MC19) and got the following error:  "We could not find an upgrade available for the registration code you entered."

I double checked my registration code by having jriver send it back to me, but still no dice.

Ripping and burning are hopes for MC20 Mac.

I just paid for the upgrade to support you guys. I have no idea whether it will provide me any functionality that I need. This is a first for me.

I'm hoping that one day you will support third party apps (such as Spotify) using MC Mac audio engine.

Upgraded. I have upgraded from 18 to 19 and now to 20. I like the implementation on Windows and hope that slowly the Mac versions close the gap. Ripping is a priority, then video. I am happy to support you guys and don't begrudge $19 every 6 months or so. It would be nice to get a roadmap to see what in general terms each upgrade path is aiming for.

Thanks Jim.

I'm considering upgrading - and would obviously like to take advantage of the discount if I do - but what can you tell us about the upgrade?  Difficult to decide whether to upgrade or not without some details about what we'll be getting.

The process is mutual -- we take what users ask for and implement it.

I can say that ripping and burning are planned for MC20 Mac.

And it worked.

Have pasted and then manually entered codes for both 18 and 19 and your upgrade will not accept my codes.  Windows version would not accept a paste only a manual entry.  What's going on??

I put your code in and it worked.  Your code should be for Windows:
ZF9F6-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXX-YCZT9

And for Mac:
E6353-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-K9P28

Ok thanks.  I asked some time ago about paste tagging (which doesn't feature on the Mac version), but didn't get a response.  Any chance of that being included in MC20?

I made the purchase the day it was announced and received a registration code for Mac 20. I am reading about people above entering the code someplace.  I have taken no action with my Mac 20 registration code to this point. Should I be and what should I do?

Just ordered the MC20 for Mac upgrade. Almost missed the special price, thanks for the heads-up!

Good to see that MC20 will include Ripping and Burning. Can you reveal what ripping-engine you wil be using? If it all compares well, I can finally kiss dBPoweramp goodbye. That's an excellent tool for ripping, but only on PC...  ;)

Were you also able to improve the sound quality? MC19 is very good, but if there's room for improvement, well...why not  ;D

I tried to buy the upgrade MC20 for Mac. Unfortunately, I had this response:"We could not find an upgrade available for the registration code you entered". My licence begin by "I" and was confirm by an email from JRiver. What can I do to resolve this problem? Thank you.

Can you reveal what ripping-engine you wil be using?

It will be built in-house, I'm sure.  Based on the same engine in the Windows version, I'd wager, with changes that make it work on a Mac (the hardware API layer on OSX is obviously different, so that will have to be rebuilt, but I'm sure the encoding engine will be the same as it is now).

Please read JimH's post explaining their business model:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=81987.0

MC20 will be developed over the course of this next year, like MC19 before it was.  If you don't want to buy it until it is done, then wait for MC21 to be announced, probably around this time next year, and buy it then.  Or wait until a feature you want has been included.

Otherwise, if you are willing to buy early before there is much of interest to announce, you get a discount and you can help to guide what gets included in the end, with your feedback and suggestions.  It is completely up to you.

i would love to see drag & drop between finder in this release since it was announced fall 2013. its a major drawback for tagging, organizing and moving files.

Also paid for the new upgrade. Keep up the good work. JRiver MediaCenter is the BEST media center one can buy for money. Even though it is not perfect and fully adapted to MAC it still is the best. So I am curious about what is coming in version 20. :)
And by the way: Your support is worth the money! Thank you.

<Edited: never mind, i think.  Had problem with launch after getting install key (nothing happens, and install key not openable
by any MAC apps), but it appears to be because the upgrade predates the software availability by a few weeks.  Not clear from upgrade offer e-mail.>

pre-order means order before available.

You can use the MC20 license with MC19 now.  Install MC19 first, then do a restore.

The most likely cause is that you are on the wrong page.  There are two -- one for Mac and one for Windows.  Just read carefully, starting at the top.

The price will be offered for at least one more day.

If I access a WINDOWS PC MC media server from a MAC Media Center client, will they still need to be the same version of media center? If yes, am I still required to buy two upgrades - one MAC and one WINPC?

You could try the download to check, but I believe they will currently work.  We sometimes have to change the database format or the protocol, so the safest thing is to run the same version on both sides.

Hi;

I have bought several licenses in the past (once, I was charged twice on my credit card for a single purchase...can you track this?). In any case, I am only now using JRiver on a single computer, a mac mini. At the time a prerelease upgrade was offered, I had started using a CAPS server using windows; I do not use it any more due to inferior audio quality compared to my older mac mini.
Now I have an upgrade code for windows, and I need to use it for mac. Can you change my registration code accordingly?
Also, can you look back during an old license purchase and see where I was charged twice?

Sorry, I could not find any other location to get this message to admin...

Thanks,

Rick

Hi All

I have the windows licence for MC19. I just got a Mac and want to use it as a satellite machine and connect to my main library on my windows pc .

Q. 1. Do I need to upgrade both to 20?
2.Does my licence cover both pc and Mac

Thanks

Mac and PC licenses are separate.

You could use the trial version to see if it will work.  It probably will.

MC19 on Mac currently works with the MC20 Library Server, and the reverse.  That cannot be guaranteed to continue throughout development of MC20, but it does now work fine.

noticed video is now available... GF has a mac we'd like to get running with jriver.

1. does the new video feature allow for accessing Windows JRiver Libraries/video/audio/image files? (She only wants to use jriver on her mac to access the house's Main library.)

2. is the licensing the same as windows... if we buy for full price, all future upgrades will be at a discount?

Thanks
