Title: 17.0.68 no ogg or mp3 encoding and screensaver disactivation
Post by: surfed on January 17, 2012, 02:35:03 pm
Hello everybody,
first post and yes i did search as best as i could but if i over saw something please forgive me as i have a very slow internet connection (sometimes like dial up)

First when i try to select the mp3 or ogg encoders i always get "There was a problem loading the selected encoder. The default encoder has been automatically selected." In Media Jukebox it works fine.

Secondly no matter what view i use and deactivate screen saver is selected in theater view it still kicks in.

Other than that everything seems to work fine.
More of a feature request, it would be nice to have some sort of view that tells me what files are already on my connected media player when selecting files to transfer, i have a 16gb collection on my external player and dont always remember whats already there...

otherwise great software,
thanks!

Welcome.

1.  I can't duplicate this.  Can you provide more details?

2.  Is it the power settings turning the monitor off?

1. Not sure what details i can provide? Except that i can change from the default ape encoder to flac or any other codec but not to mp3 or ogg (it will hang for 20 to 30 seconds) without error message. My codecs should be fine as it works in Media Jukebox. I have the k-lite codec pak installed could that be an issue?

2. The monitor is not going off but the screen saver comes on.

thanks for reply

Regarding encoding the MP3 and OGG Vorbis formats MC needs to download the encoder components from the JRiver server. It should happen automatically when these formats are selected in the encoding options. Perhaps a security program is preventing this.

You can add the components manually (it is a bit tricky process, I can explain it if needed), but try first to check if your firewall or other security program can be set to allow the downloads.

Thanks thats one issue down. Turned off windows firewall and it downloaded the codec just fine. Silly Firewall.... or me...

That only leaves my screen saver problem to be sorted out :)

Could you use Help > Logging to capture a log showing the screen saver coming on while in Theater View?

Then email it to logs at jriver dot com.

Thanks.

Alex B/Matt.... are these the only two codecs for audio that are downloaded on first-use?  If not, which others?  This weekend, I updated the Encoding Settings (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Encoding_Settings) wiki page, and want to be sure to note this process, and which encoders are affected.  Thanks.

I believe OGG, MP3, and MPC download the encoder on first use.

Screensaver has been a problem since at last 17.0.58

There are two possibilities.

1.  Screensaver

2.  Windows power settings for turning the display off

I think it's #2.  Try changing the time interval in Windows.

Hey, Jim. Not sure who you were replying to, but I believe the issue is that Tools > Theater View > Disable Screensaver in Theater View isn't working properly. It suspends screensaver activation just fine in Display View, but not in Playing Now and other audio views. It's reproducible on every machine I've tried.

Like I mentioned above, please send a log showing the screensaver start when it shouldn't.

Thanks.

Thanks for the log.

I only see Windows ask about turning on the screen saver one time (it asks once a second), and we say "no":
0679353: 7148: General: CMainFrame::OnSysCommand: Start
0679353: 7148: General: CMainFrame::OnSysCommand: Command: 61760, Param: 1
0679353: 7148: General: CMCUICore::GetEnableMonitorChange: Start
0679353: 7148: General: CMCUICore::GetEnableMonitorChange: Change: 0; UI Mode: -995
0679353: 7148: General: CMCUICore::GetEnableMonitorChange: Playback state: 2
0679353: 7148: General: CMCUICore::GetEnableMonitorChange: Disabling change for full screen playback
0679353: 7148: General: CMCUICore::GetEnableMonitorChange: Finish (result: 0) (0 ms)
0679353: 7148: General: CMainFrame::OnSysCommand: Finish (0 ms)

I wonder if your particular screen saver could be an issue?  What happens if you try a default Windows screensaver?

Is it possible some other program has the keyboard focus (start menu, program on another monitor, etc.) so Windows isn't asking us about the screensaver?

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks.

I just tested, screensaver set to activate in 1 minute, set to disabled for theater view.  But it kicks in after about 1 minute.

I wonder if this started when we made Theater View a floating window on top of the main frame.  Investigating...

Next build:
Fixed: Disabling of the screen saver was not working in Theater View (optional in Options > Theater View).
