Title: Tooltip duration.
Post by: gvag on March 16, 2010, 03:07:42 pm
Is there a way to make the tooltips stay on the screen until the mouse moves.  Some of my files have extensive notes, it would be nice to have them stay on screen when I hover over them.

Thanks

George

I never noticed that they disappear without mousemovement... Looks as my mouse never stays a long time at the same position ;)

I remember intending to request this before, but not sure if I ever actually did.

The tooltip stays indefinitely in the file list (until mouse movement) but in the tag window it only stays for a few seconds.  If anything this seems the wrong way round.  It can get in the way on the file list, where more often than not you've left the mouse there after having say selected a track, but if you hover over a field on the tag window, usually it means there's info there you want to see all of.

The delay in the detail list is ~30 secs and as I said in my original post I have extensive notes so 30 secs just doesn't cut it.  An option to have all tooltips display until mouse movement would be real nice.

This is not currently configurable.

It's normal for tooltips to eventually hide themselves.  Maybe we shouldn't do that for file list tooltips, or maybe we should increase the timeout.  I don't think it deserves an option.

If there are enough votes in this thread in a certain direction, we'll consider changing the behavior.

Thanks.

When hovering over things like [notes], [bios], [review], etc. in the Tag Window, you get this great tooltip that allows you to read the tag contents without actually opening the tag up.

I asked for "keep the tooltip open while the mouse is over it" a few years ago, and still think it's a good idea... for the tag window.

I don't think this would be too great for tooltips in the file list, as they are already a bit "in yer face" there.

I often find it annoying. But I resist the temptation to turn them off as I would find it even more annoying to have to change an option to do so. I wish there was an on/off toggle in the interface (like a toolbar button or something on the tab bar). I'd use that to turn file tooltips off while using the tag window or otherwise don't want it interfering with file operations.

I'd love a longer delay on tooltips in the file window too. I get half way through reading the note tag and bang its gone..and i have to then open the notes tag.
