A bump to point out that

JRemote allow you to Stream without transcoding FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, MP3, OGG, AAC and WAV with jriver server.

doesn't include APE.

I don't have an iDevice, but do they even support APE files? A quick google search says no. I don't think APE is a very widely supported codec (edit: on mobile devices); Android doesn't support it either (although I have seen 3rd party apps that do).

There are apps that can play it, I believe. For instance, https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/golden-ear/id407945101?mt=8 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/golden-ear/id407945101?mt=8). I don't know whether that means that JRemote can be configured to stream APE.

It may well be that it might be tome to convert my files into something more widely supported.
