Title: PCM to DSD on the fly
Post by: canofan on September 04, 2021, 08:56:21 am
I am actually using the on the fly feature to play extracted CD files. The maximum is 8xDSD. I am wondering if JRiver Is contemplating a 16xDSD.

Why? EMM, one of the best converters, upsamples to DSD512

If you knew about processing artifacts decorrelation, since they work in the time domain, it would have less impact on the sound image when the sampling is higher. DSD512 is sure very good but DSD1024 will reduce this distortion by two. This is the only reason for me to wish that. It works in the same diredtion as MQA. I know HQPlayer does this. . But I am here and not there.

What is your stereo equipment?
DAC, preamp, speakers..
I wonder what would you do with the signal..
I am bit puzzled, you added also MQA to the mix..

I make my own equipment. I know the software decorrelation of MQA but I do no need it, as I use a hardware decorrelator. I mentioned MQA because it is widely known now.

you asked me about my equipment - it is sufficient to say that i use a double oven controlled crystal oscillator, with a sine wave output, very good for reducing phase noise.

As in physics and math, zero is utopic and you never reach it, You can only reduce phase noise but the biggest progress in reducing progessing decorrelation is to reduce it dramatically by using a hardware decorrelation remover; there is no point in making a super analogue system that uncovers those errors. So cure those problems first. When your source is clean, then get busy with the analogue, not before.
