My usb creative audigy bit the dust last night and i need to get something new.
i want an internal card, digital coax (RCA) out (this must be on the rear as its a media pc and will look ugly coming out of a drive bay). my amp will do the decoding so its just a pass through.
i've a 5.1 setup, may go to 6.1 but thats all the amp supports.
any suggestions? i dotn play games, or make music, just listen and watch DVD's.
also i dont want to spend a ton
thanks

I think M-Audio Revolution 5.1 would be adequate. It has decent quality, it can pass through bit perfect 44.1 kHz audio (it does not resample 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz) and it has a coaxial SPDIF connector.
You should be able to find one for about $70. For example:

I like Turtle Beach cards mostly for the quality of their drivers.
You can get a TB Catalina 7+1 card for under $50-
The TB cards do 44.1 kHz on SP-DIF as well.

I'm in the market also... Is there a way of testing if a soundcard does bit perfect spdif passthru without resampling? What's the disadvantage of having the card resample 44.1khz audio up to 48khz?
Thanks

I suppose resampling (if not doubling the sample rate), means some (more or less) loss of quality.
I use the Creative Audigy 2 ZS, and i am perfectly happy with this for now. But i belive this resamples...

I quite fancied one with a hardware controller for Volume, Bass etc.
Anyone know any good ones for that?
Also, are they any good or is it just a waste of money buying one of them?
Thanks
