I'm trying to remove a specific genre from all of the [Genre] fields in my library. I've enabled pane tagging in the options, selected all of my files, a checkbox appears next to the [Genre] I want to remove in the genre pane, I try unchecking the box by clicking it, but nothing happens. Ideas?

When you do this, is there music playing?
If the answer is yes, the next question is, are you using any of the visualisations from Soundspectrum?
If the answer to that is also yes, then that is the problem. There's a bug. I raised a ticket with Soundspectrum who basically told me it wouldn't get fixed.
If the answers to the above are "No", I have no other ideas, sorry.
Full details of the Soundspectrum thing are posted here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,128741.0.html

No on both accounts, but that sounds like it was a fun one to track down!

I've noticed that pane tagging works a little strange in general when working with tags that only differ in casing. If the tags have different casing (say "pop" and "Pop") they will show up as a single tag in the pane editor but if they are changed via pane tagging, the change will only be applied to files belonging to one of the cases, while the others remain untouched. Maybe it's related?

That's "tree tagging", which isn't a bad idea to play around with to see if I can sidestep the problem, thanks.
Pane tagging:

I think the problem is linked to multiple genres in the genre list, possibly exacerbated by casing differences.
