- so its a mix between Windows 8 and Metro surface
A VERY nice mix!

Think the final version will look quite different...
I hope the clean, minimalistic (Metro ;) ) design will still stay!
I'd also like it a little darker.

take it as an extended preview.
If it's ok for you, I'll not take it as a preview but as my new standard skin  :) I like this one very much!

I'm missing a stop button and a mouse over effect in lists.
I corrected this modifying two of your bitmaps. Attached them here.
Edit: made stop button square a bit smaller. Now it fits better.
Edit 2: The current version of the skin needs a new stop button, because the button outline got thicker. You can find the big stop button here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74434.msg532077#msg532077) and a smaller once here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74434.msg532078#msg532078).

I really LOVE this skin, but I'm missing a stop button. So I created two :)

A big one is attached at this post and a smaller one can be found in a later post (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74434.msg532078#msg532078).

For the here attached big stop just download the file "playerbar_stop.png" and put it into the "MetroX - Default (Magenta)" and/or "MetroX - Default (Cyan)" folder.

But the skin is not working correctly (action window) with Media Center 18.

But the skin is not working correctly (action window) with Media Center 18.
What doesn't work for you?

The action window "main screen" is brigther than it was in MC 17 for me. This is because MC18 doesn't honor the Action Windows "Template" setting for the "main" background but uses the list background setting. The subscreens instead are using the action windows "Template" settings. Seems to be a little bug in MC18. Or maybe I don't understand how it works ;)

I think this is a MC bug. Not a skin bug.

Yes. Other bug in list_ratingclear: the image (clear classification) appears deformed.

I have no idea what was/is causing this clear_rating bug. I did just a quick fix. I made the pictures smaller. But it doesn't look as good as the rest of the skin :-/

Usually there one things or more that i don't like in a skin.
But this one is perfect for me and  i think i prefer you're opposite to my flats skins ,excellent job!
My fav of all time.
Can we expect some colours?
Title: Re: New Skin: MetroX
Post by: Maverick07 on September 22, 2012, 06:49:49 pm
So here it is, the final version of the skin.
- MetroX - Default (Cyan)
- MetroX - Default (Magenta) - ye the list colors are from zune ^^

To all expectetions, sorry, the mainframe is grey. But imo it looks way better.
I left the .png without background, so you still can use any background color you want.
Maybe i will do some colored versions later, thats why i took the unusual name.

- To the bug with the ratingclear icon:
Dont know why the icon looks deformed. So the bug still exist in both themes. I will fix it when i know it.

- MC18?
Skin is optimized for MC17 - so the skin can look a lil bit different on the 18. version.

---------
And finally, i will add a screenshot of the MetroX2 that im currently working on.
It will took way longer to finish it. Dont expect it to early ^^

You can change the images background size. I double checked and the here attached version is perfekt round/symetric in MC17 & MC18. It's 7x7px for the cross 11x11px for the circled cross when shown in MC. I don't mind if you use my stop button or my rating clear button (of course without crediting me ;) )

yep, thanks for the hint
I fixed it, still doesnt look like as sharp as the other ones. Kinda strange because im using the same file for the other skins, anyway...

But nice to see that someone has some hints and ideas how to improve the skins =)

I like your work. His work is quality.

You do not like the stop button, hehehehe, but the stop button on this skin is beautiful (I think).

I'm without internet at home.

I'm with my internet work. I can not access deviantart.

Please, could be made available for download here on the forum?

This is an excellent skin. A lot of time and effort has gone into it, and the attention to detail is exemplary. Well done.

As for v2...
Good luck with that design!!
One of the challenges set for the "Arctic Winter (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=15326.msg379344#msg379344)" skins was to try and blend an image across the "Tree / Top Border" divide in such a way that when the tree width changed, the skin still looked acceptable. I've had a quick think as to how you might approach this problem, and can see only two possibilities that both involve certain levels of compromise. Looking forward to seeing your solution to this challenge :)

So what exactly is the fix here, please spell out in idiot terms so I can understand, background color tells me nothing as when I change it in main.xml nothing happens.

I've updated the skin to 1.1
- Skin got slighly darker
- Some minimal changes that I don't remember anymore

Also i uploaded the skin on the offical skin page (two weeks ago)
=> it's still not added / active  ::)

Great work! At last there is something that will replace Noire for me. With some minor adjustments the Cyan skin definitely worth being the default skin for MC when installing on Windows 8.
Some minor remarks:
1. To better match Windows Explorer, I'd put triangles instead of +/- in the tree and tool panes. +/- signs for Windows 7+ user do not have any other meaning except "add"/"remove".
2. In the tabs area there is a square that serves as "New tab" button. Showing "+" in it on hover will make it mimic IE10's behavior.
3. Square area w. triangles on both sides of the scroll bar are few pixels wider than the scroll bar.
4. Zone icon still old-school, doesn't look consistent to other icons in the tree. Folder icon very black, maybe only the outline should be black. RSS icon has soft edges, this is inconsistent with the other Metro-style icons.
5. Icon with 9 dots in the top left corner of the Tag pane is nice, but for WP user it would be more usual to see just 3 dots.

Anyway - thumbs up for Maverick07! JR guys, please add this to the official skin page!

Hm, everyone has his taste... I wouldn't like triangles in the tree. I like +/- :)

A appearing "+" at the new tab button would be a nice addition. But as far as I know, MC doesn't support this.

slow to see this one, but glad I did.  Very nice, well done.

Only comments...
1. The stop button, kind of need it to bring up playdoctor again.
2. I am assuming it is not possible to change these.... can the little graphics in the action window be removed?  They appear to be a constant in all skins so I am assuming not.  Your skin would look great without any graphic.  I presume this has been requested of JRiver before??

Thanks for the great skin.

Indeed you are right. But consistency with other applications is very important. Even if people do not use Windows Explorer, they do use the standard open/save dialogs very often. And then we see the triangles.
As for +/- in the tool panes - intuition tells that this is about adding/removing something since any window has different graphics for minimizing/restoring.

Hey Craig!

2. I am assuming it is not possible to change these.... can the little graphics in the action window be removed?

They can easily be removed!

To give it a try, search for your Media Center installation folder and place an empty dummy file into "[JRiver Program folder]\Data\Custom Art". It is possible that you have to create the Folder named "Custom Art" as a subfolder to "Data". If the Data-Folder isn't there you are looking at the wrong place ;) You have to Name your dummy file ActionWindowNavigation.png.

I attached a dummy down here ;) You can put this file there to give it a try. If you like to get your graphics back, just delete the dummy.

BTW when it comes to a pixel-hunting I usually use Win + (Plus Sign) to launch Magnifier.

Is it a one line change in a template to make it larger than a single pixel?  I have a crappy setup with my mouse and it took me 20 goes to grab the line.

Thanks

Is it a one line change in a template to make it larger than a single pixel?

It is :)

Open "main.xml" in your skin folder. If you don't know how to open it, you can use notepad (start it pressing [WinKey]+[R] and then typing "notepad").

Watch out for the section named <splitter>. The first line there should be <Data DefaultSize="1" />. Guess what you have to change to make the splitter size bigger than 1px  ;)

You have to restart MC for making the changes work.

what is this winning key you speak of.  I have never won anything, not even a raffle ticket :))

i really like the style of this skin, but having sat with it for a night or two now, I am noticing its brightness, having come off black on black.

Have you given any thought to a darker scheme??  (I know I could try but I am so poor on design)

You have to change the value of <Data DefaultSize="1" />. If you want the splitter to be 6px wide change it to <Data DefaultSize="6" />

You've got a PM.

Ive updated the skin about two weeks ago to 1.2:
- Removed the actionwindow icons
- smaller Prev / Play / Next buttons
- bigger LinkButtons in the List

~ Optimized for Jukebox 14 and MC17
~ Skin also available for VLC at my deviantart profile (wish jriver would support such skinning options)

Ye, you can mod it however you want.
But its not really my taste - not really eye friendly on my screen

Hi Maverick

Thanks for this skin. I'm looking for a maximally ergonomic skin and this is the nearest I have so far found.

Some observations you might like to know of:

MetroX (Cyan) under MC18

1 Left edge drag is ignored at some positions e.g.

2 Right side drag is not offered at some positions e.g.

3 The single resize grip (on bottom-left corner) seems odd, since the other corners too offer resize.

4 The button to left of Search is a magnifier - rather than a plus as one would expect from the fact that Noire down-arrow is MetroX plus elsewhere, and from the fact it does not perform a search but present a menu.

5 I would prefer this skin to remove the menu transparency and remaining gradients and animations (e.g. on Player tab preset buttons).

Thanks again.

Title: Re: New Skin: MetroX
Post by: Maverick07 on February 01, 2013, 05:57:26 pm
first of all, thanks for the feedback...

1,2...its the only way to get a seamless skin without borders - so if you want to resize it, you get an border that does not fit to the metro style
- but you can resize it on top and bottom of the player (in the dark areas)

3...i took the resize grip from steam, well yea, thats it ^^

4...well, all of my skins are using the magnifier icon - imo it looks better than the boring dropdown icon
- btw: dsp also got a popup menu, and it aint got an arrow down icon

5...transparency: jriver does it at its own - so its impossible to remove
and ye, if you dont like the gradients, you can use your own colors, by recoloring the dark areas
Title: Re: New Skin: MetroX

5 I would prefer this skin to remove [...] remaining gradients and animations (e.g. on Player tab present buttons).
As far as I know the Player Tab preset buttons are not part of this skin. If you want them to be skinned you could place three image files in the skin folder named
As long as those files are not there, MC will use the standard images for the preset buttons. And the standard design does look as it does in your screenshot. To give it a try you could put the three attached files into the MetroX skin folder.

4 The button to left of Search is a magnifier - rather than a plus as one would expect from the fact that Noire down-arrow is MetroX plus elsewhere, and from the fact it does not perform a search but present a menu.
I never thought about that. Now reading your statement I'd prefer a drop down arrow there, too.

> 1,2...its the only way to get a seamless skin without borders

OK. Personally I don't see the advantage of no border when non-maximised, but perhaps some people do.

> 5...transparency: jriver does it at its own - so its impossible to remove
and ye, if you dont like the gradients, you can use your own colors, by recoloring the dark areas

OK, thanks. Am I correct in assuming the animations also are impossible to remove? E.g. the fade-in.out of tooltips and preset button highlights.

To give it a try you could put the three attached files into the MetroX skin folder.
Thanks, but that makes no difference here: http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/1140/jrmctestwindowsvirtualp.png

Sorry. Didn't remember that I added some lines to main.xml. If you wanna try you should add these lines to main.xml:

Code: [Select]
<CARRADIO>
  <Entry Name="ButtonLeft" Bitmap="CarRadio_ButtonLeft.png" NumberImages="4" Margins="3,3,2,0" OverTextColor="FFFFFF" PressedTextColor="FFFFFF" />
  <Entry Name="ButtonMiddle" Bitmap="CarRadio_ButtonMiddle.png" NumberImages="4" Margins="0,3,2,0" OverTextColor="FFFFFF" PressedTextColor="FFFFFF" />
  <Entry Name="ButtonRight" Bitmap="CarRadio_ButtonRight.png" NumberImages="4" Margins="0,3,3,0" OverTextColor="FFFFFF" PressedTextColor="FFFFFF" />
</CARRADIO>

You should place it somewhere at the end. Last line should be something like </MJMS>. Place it right before that line.

add these lines to main.xml:

Code: [Select]
<CARRADIO>
  <Entry Name="ButtonLeft" Bitmap="CarRadio_ButtonLeft.png" NumberImages="4" Margins="3,3,2,0" OverTextColor="FFFFFF" PressedTextColor="FFFFFF" />
  <Entry Name="ButtonMiddle" Bitmap="CarRadio_ButtonMiddle.png" NumberImages="4" Margins="0,3,2,0" OverTextColor="FFFFFF" PressedTextColor="FFFFFF" />
  <Entry Name="ButtonRight" Bitmap="CarRadio_ButtonRight.png" NumberImages="4" Margins="0,3,3,0" OverTextColor="FFFFFF" PressedTextColor="FFFFFF" />
</CARRADIO>

You should place it somewhere at the end. Last line should be something like </MJMS>. Place it right before that line.
Thanks - that worked fine, on MetroX - Default (Cyan) and MetroX - Default (Magenta).

FTR, the last line was:

Code: [Select]
</MJMS>2

Marverick (and MetroX users), you might like to know that installing MetroX on MC18 here interfered with the appearance of other skins. E.g. when I switched back to Noire, small icons from MetroX remained.

I worked around this as follows: In C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 18\Data\ , delete Custom Art\ and Custom Resources\.

- If you don't like the custom icons you have to delete the "Custom Art" and "Custom Resources" folder (J River/Media Center.../Data)
It's on deviant art.

I found a bug too only one icon (player sometimes revert to default ) but it's was in previous Mc build now it's seems ok.

Indeed it is. No mention of interference with other skins, there.

Perhaps you take that to indicate interference with other skins, but I don't think most users would.

Update to 1.3

Well, several modifications on the MainFrame
Main change are the brighter TabBar and ActionWindow - now the skin looks way more tidy/classy

For me the buttons play, pause, next, previous are not very sharp as your picture (Screenshot).

Why?

suggestion:

Playerbar_SliderVol and PlayerBar_SliderVolFront more fine

Hi,good works tab bar is really better like this.
You have changed some others icons too ;) like services or handled etc... per eg :)
The buttons (play pauseetc...)are more small but i prefer ancient ones
I don't see difference in the slider
U have forgotten the inactive header background it's almost noire (use 2 view for to see what i mean)
And u forgotten to color separators on toolbars with tha black colors.

Anyway i don't find any issue with it with MC 18 so great works!

Hm, I kind off like the new, thicker playbar buttons! But again I'm missing a stop button... If anyone needs a big stop button: here it goes! Just place the attached file into the skins folder!

For a smaller stop button you have to change all four play control buttons in order to get the right space between them. If you want to: Here you go! Just place the attached files into the skins folder!

- slighly darker inactive tabs
- new icons => nearly all of them got a workover or got replaced by new ones

Hi,
this skin is very nice, I would like to use it. However, I rather prefer dark themed skin, and to use Metro as the successor of my Albedo, I would like to change the colors of the white areas into black/dark and of course the dark text into bright ones.

I already found out that I need to change MAIN.XML in the skin folder, tried to play around, but nothing has changed. Any hint, which values to change?

Thanks

For text you can change on the xml file, and for change it the color from white to dark, either change the exact image or from xml file. But from what i read, you need to change the image then change the text.
Look on the main file in that section and see if it has some additional info about "image.png" and from there you look the right image and change it (your image is in the folder where the main file it is).
Hope it will help you.

Yes thanks. Unfortunately I cannot find a documentation, and finding the code, relating to certain colors is a pain in..., but I will go through it the next days. Don´t know, if I am allowed to publish the modified files here. Or is this copyrighted/dissallowed by the creator of MetroX? If not, I will publish the dark version here... :)

Thanks for this very nice skin!

I'm using MC19 and the bottom of the playerbar_posthumb.png is cut up to par with the bottom border of playerbar_pos.png while it should protrude a few millimeters, which means it now shows just 2/3 of the whole circle.

How can this be fixed?

Best regards

Really sad news, as this is the only Skin I know so far, which looks modern and at least to me - appealing.

So true ! JRiver skins look so 1999 for most of them... MetroX was really nice and modern, the problem for me was the menu item not visible unless you hovered them.

Right now I use Modern Cards Duo skin, who looks pretty nice !

Hello Kurushi,

I've seen yours based on MetroX, nice work. What I'd like is to have the menu items clearly visible. And I'd like the originals colors of metro X better. For me MetroX was perfect, just these invisible menu items...
Title: Re: New Skin: MetroX
Post by: kurushi on May 13, 2015, 02:55:38 pm
Sorry for the very late answer i was on other stuffs...
So for the invisible menu items all is located in the main.xml

Hit ctrl+F on it and type menu so you 'll found the entry i am on a new mac so i can see the main.xml now.
Make a backup and try you 'll found it.
From memory it's not transparencies just the same colors for default and hovered.
When i 'll have my computer i 'll check.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to inform you that after two years I'm working on an update for the MetroX again.

The idea was to combine the new Windows 10 style with the older Windows 8 Metro style into one skin, depending on which system you are using.
Sadly the "Plattform" command is only working since the MC 20 version, which is a no go for me because i want to make it usable on older versions and the Jukebox as well.

So i have to make two versions.
An older Metro style => This skin is actually to 99% finished
- with no borders
- "negative" effects when buttons get pressed
- Windows 8 header buttons

A new Windows 10 based version => finished in 1-3 weeks?
- borders
- "darker" effects when buttons get pressed
- Windows 10 header button
- completely new frame windows
- new action window style (not sure about that)

As you can see there won't be so many differences between those. So they will be kinda similar.
Also there might be a special version that combines both skins, with some custom icons and slightly different colors. But that's the future and i will see if I will be motivated enough.

List of changes:
- the + / - icons got replaced by normal dropdown arrows
- icreased / sharper "Mainframe" buttons
- fixed "PositionBar"
- new "ActionWindows" buttons
- new X (close) buttons
- new "RadioCar" buttons

Great to see you "back at work" :)

MetroX is still my favorite Skin. Lets see if it can get even better! Will it finally get a stop button  8)

I'll consider trying "Modern Cards 2" once it gets released, because it looks very promising. I like the scroll bar design of Modern Cards. They are not so dominant as they are in MetroX. But they have to be this dominant in your skin because it's Metro, I guess...

Done :)

So i ended up with 4 versions so far:
Cyan and Zune for Windows 8
Cyan and Pink for Windows 10

There will be another color theme for Windows 10 as it doesn't take too long. I only have to change 4 files or so.
I think im going for a Dark Green to Lime gradient, or a bright Blue to Yellow gradient (such as the gaia skins)

However,
So the Windows 8 versions didn't got so many major updates.
As i said before the + / - buttons got replaced, and a general makeover of the mainframe buttons.

Which leads us to the Windows 10 versions.
- Instead of the "Zune" color i picked a bright and modern pink color.
- Less colorful elements in general
- New scrollbars (thinner)
- The toolbar text is visible again
All the other changes i posted earlier

As usual, the previews and download button is on the first site.

That's it i think.
I hope you like the changes, even it took a long time.
So happy testing, and hopefully not too many bug reports  :) :D

Great to see you "back at work" :)
+1

One request:
Is it possible to make the PlayerBar_SliderVol.png in the same greyscale as the progress_back.png?
(this would make customizing the main color easy er.)

One remark:
To make this skin working on Linux systems all the Capitals in the filenames must match.
I got it to work after renaming this file's:

Playerbar_SliderVolThumb.png  ==> PlayerBar_SliderVolThumb.png
Playerbar_SliderVolThumb.png   ==> PlayerBar_SliderVolThumb.png

I would be great for future use if all filenames would match by default

Thanks again
Title: Re: New Skin: MetroX
Post by: Maverick07 on August 18, 2015, 03:00:47 pm
Thank you for you feedback.
I didn't know that the skin is not working on Linux as long as the filenames do not match exactly.

I updated the skin to 1.5.1 to fix that issue.

---
By greyscale you probably mean the Windows 8 version, right?

Hey guys,
i know its been some time since i anounced that there will be a "special" version of the skin.
Well here it is...

It didn't turned out to be that special - well i've only change the colors and the three color buttons on the mainframe, as i actually like the rest of the skin ;D
I think it turned out good even with only a handful of changes. The skin looks much sleeker and modern now.

So yes the "Modern" skin is now available in the MetroX package on my deviantart site. As usual in a bright pink and cyan / blue color.

I was planning to make more colors like gold / bright green / red / white / ... but in the end i stayed at the usual colors.
If you have any color wishes let me know it, and i can upload it here :)

Yes it's possible look at my skins and the base is you're skin as you know so from meory i don't know if i moved the offset in the main xml or if i have just changed the png but it's doable many skin do it...

Some news for you...

I'm currently working on an all white version of the MetroX, to maybe go for an even more elegant version.

(http://orig10.deviantart.net/8013/f/2016/026/b/b/metrox_white_preview_by_maverick07x-d9pdt82.jpg) (http://orig10.deviantart.net/8013/f/2016/026/b/b/metrox_white_preview_by_maverick07x-d9pdt82.jpg)

It is in the very early stages but this is how it will might look.
Yes technically it's very light grey - it will be hard to find the matching colors to still see the difference between the greyscales, and to be still considered as "white".

I'm not sure if i like it, or if anyone is interested in it?
...so yes the release date could vary a lot on my motivation and if im happy with the result

So i have two news for you. A good one and a bad one.

The bad one is that there won't be a white version in the near future. Somehow i could not get familiar with it as soon i switched over to the normal one.

The good thing is that the Windows 10 version got a small update.
The List and Action Windows got a new look so it fits better to Windows 10. The old one still had the borderless Metro style which did not fully fit to the rest of the skin.
I also fixed the color of the list. Means if you deactivate the gridlines the background will be pure white now.
I'm pretty happy with the rest of the skin, so i did not touched the rest.

As usual the changes can be seen on the first site.

Hope you like it :)

Hey people,
It's been a while now again  ;D

As I'm still using my skin there are still some updates here and there.
First of all the official updates which are very little:
- the bottom bar is now light instead of dark, which makes the skin a bit sleeker looking
- Action Window have a white background so easier to seperate it from the rest
- added official "Gold" color theme

Apart of that no big updates...
But because of the current weather I decided to fresh up the skin a bit - so basically changing the main background of the top part.
So far there are three different colors - but more are coming. Those three are "done" but I did not put them into the official download package as I haven't decided which one should go in.

Aegean/Pink - A very dark blue combined with pink accents
Cobalt/Blue - the official Microsoft blue with blue accents
Gaia/Pink - A fresh and experimental gradient color (inspired by the old Gaia themes), again together with pink

(https://orig07.deviantart.net/e923/f/2017/235/f/0/jriver___metrox___aegean_pink_by_maverick07x-dbl2cjq.jpg) (https://orig05.deviantart.net/9105/f/2017/235/0/c/jriver___metrox___cobalt_blue_by_maverick07x-dbl2bn7.jpg) (https://orig10.deviantart.net/a5a8/f/2017/235/1/d/jriver___metrox___gaia_pink_by_maverick07x-dbl29qn.jpg)

I quite like it, even more than the cyan one i would say  ;D

There are 3 skins and the last change is August 23rd.
